We are seeking a distinguished and strategic scientific leader to provide strategic and technical oversight for all aspects of Magenta's protein engineering and antibody discovery efforts from discovery to development. The ideal candidate is a creative and innovative scientist who has had senior level scientific/technical leadership responsibility with substantial experience in the successful discovery and development of protein therapeutics across many biologic modalities, such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody drug conjugates, and peptides. The role would also help in shaping Magenta's leadership role in the field moving forward.

You are perfect for this role if you are engaged by:
  • Guide the strategic approach for the antibody discovery and protein engineering groups to identify and develop novel biotherapeutics
  • Provide scientific guidance and mentorship to leaders of the bioconjugation, protein sciences and antibody discovery groups and work cross functionally with CMC, Translational Science, and Development
  • Lead technological innovations to drive continual improvements and optimization of Magenta's antibody and protein engineering platforms enabling continued success as the organization grows and continue to maintain a crucial role in the field
  • Responsible for effectively managing a departmental budget and delivering results based on work conducted at CROs
  • Be a recognized leader and represent the company at scientific conferences and author high impact peer review publications
  • Delivery of research and development reports to support regulatory submissions (IND/IMPD, information requests, amendments, briefing books, BLA/MAA etc.
  • Inspiring intellectually and scientifically curious teams in an environment where imaginative and constructive dialog can flourish
  • Collaborate effectively with the Project Management, Program Leads, Discovery, Quality, and Regulatory groups to meet program goals
  • Inspiring and motivating a high performing team, setting clear direction, enabling cross-functional collaboration, empowering people, and developing, coaching and mentoring talent


We would be thrilled if you brought the following with you:
  • Ph.D. in Life Science with at least 8 years (Sr. Director) or 10 years (VP) of combined R&D experience from the biotech/biopharmaceutical industry and world-class academic institutions with demonstrated career growth and experience gained in leading mid-sized to large R&D organizations
  • Deep experience in antibody drug discovery platforms and protein engineering
  • Expertise in bioconjugation and development of novel ADCs
  • Leadership of analytical characterization of diverse biologics modalities, such as monoclonal antibodies, ADCs, and peptides from discovery through development
  • Successful leadership of antibody and ADC lead validation program(s) from preclinical development through development
  • Recognized leader and expert with a track record in assay development, immunology and cell biology field
  • Working knowledge of the regulatory requirements for the development and approval of protein therapeutics
  • Strong external presence and an ability to create and communicate a strong research vision and strategy in a compelling and inspirational manner to a range of audiences, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated success in attracting, managing and retaining world-class scientific talent
  • Strong people leadership abilities, including inspiring and motivating a high performing team, setting clear direction, enabling cross-functional collaboration, empowering people, and developing, coaching and mentoring talent
  • Proven ability in collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams and with senior leadership
