Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as a Sr. Director, Global Medical Affairs. Primarily, this position will be responsible for the strategic development and overall tactical execution of dedicated early and late stage pipeline launch indications, with a current focus on Yescarta. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Clinical Development, HEOR, Market Access, Government Affairs, Marketing and in-function across different regions etc., as well as collaborate with external KOLs and decision-makers. You will be focused on developing the launch strategy for Yescarta in FL, including developing a life cycle management data generation plan, defining communication and education areas of focus, driving certain data mining activities, help the regions/countries to develop their tactical plans, be the point of contact for scientific questions related to Yescarta in the respective indication and provide cross-functional support with scientific expertise and real world practice enhancing strategies to improve patients outcome. This role will be office-based in Santa Monica, CA

Specific responsibilities:
  • Provides vision and direction for the assigned disease area, drive the development and execution of the cross-functional product and disease strategy
  • Provide strategic direction, medical monitor responsibility and operational oversight on evidence generation activities under the medical affairs function in close collaboration with cross functional team
  • Provide strategic input and excellence in execution on launch plans for the disease area
  • Capture insights on the assigned therapy area systematically, both internal and external, and be able to translate these insights into actionable activities for the therapy area
  • Provides clear strategic guidance for the development and execution of the disease strategy, the medical Plans of Action (POAs) and cross-functional projects
  • Ensures continuous development and training of the medical affairs team with regards for disease area expertise
  • Plans and monitors the disease area budget
  • Participates in the exchange with the medical community and maintains a thought leader network
  • Contributes to the development and execution of the global Market Access strategy and support individual country initiatives when global strategic decision is needed.
  • Contributes to the development of Regional and countries medical affairs POAs
  • Collaborates effectively and in a compliant manner with colleagues in other functional areas, e.g. Clinical Research, Sales and Marketing, Market Access, PVE


Has additional internal and external leadership roles:
  • Stays up to date with Medical Affairs management approaches in the industry and applies them to the Kite team where appropriate
  • Stays up to date with medical and scientific developments in the field and applies them internally
  • Provides local medical expert input into global product development
  • Leads and/or contributes to organizational projects at the national, international, and departmental level
  • Represents Global Medical Affairs to external and internal stakeholders, including groups of experts, medical professional groups, societies, regulatory groups and at national and international scientific meetings


Basic Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD or PharmD) and 12+ years of Industry Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Research experience OR
  • Master's degree and 12+ years of Industry Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Research experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 14+ years of Industry Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Research experience OR
  • High School degree and years 18+ of Industry Medical Affairs and/or Clinical Research experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong clinical and/or scientific knowledge in Oncology/hematology
  • Significant leadership experience in the matrix
  • Ability to embrace Kite's patient-centric values, including highest ethical and compliance standards
  • Strategic mindset with a focus on collaboration and excellence
  • Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and prioritization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience of working in an international environment
  • Approximately 35% travel
