Gilead has an opportunity for a highly motivated team leader in our Biologics Development group at our Oceanside facility in Southern California. We are seeking a leader with significant experience leading Cell Line Development teams for generating mammalian cell lines producing monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. This leader will work in a collaborative, high-performing, fast-paced environment to develop cell lines for Gilead's biologics pipeline projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead team of scientists to conduct cell line development for monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins.

  • Lead end-to-end Cell Line Development for pipeline projects, including activities from vector design and construction to clonal cell lines ready for Master Cell Bank generation.

  • Drive process improvements for increased speed and efficiency in order to generate highly productive, high quality, robust cell lines that meet all regulatory requirements with high quality documentation.

  • Develop and motivate team, and develop careers of direct and indirect reports.

    Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
    • 14+ years of industry experience with a PhD degree in chemical engineering or related discipline is required. Candidates with BS or MS degree may be considered with Biologics and Cell Line Development experience.
    • Demonstrated excellence and experience in cell line development is required, including:
    • Experience in mammalian gene expression systems and productivity enhancing technologies
    • Experience with automation and high-throughput technologies as applied to mammalian cell line generation and process optimization
    • Experience in a range of cell line selection and screening methodologies
    • Experience with controlling product quality by cell engineering and/or cell line selection
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and adhere to timelines
    • Ability to think critically, and demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are required
    • Flexibility and a willingness to expand skill set and responsibilities is a must
    • Experience with the preparation of regulatory submissions is required
    • Experience and knowledge in GMP cell banking operations is preferred
