The Director, Specialty & Oncology Field Access Specialist (FAS) leads, manages and coaches the Field Access Specialist team across the US Area Specialty & Oncology Portfolio. The FAS educates HCPs on the AbbVie patient experience programs, focusing on access and reimbursement support. The Director, Specialty & Oncology FAS must have demonstrated significant people leadership skills and deep technical understanding of coverage, coding, payment and distribution of specialty products and the rules and regulations that govern provision of reimbursement support.

The primary responsibility of the Director, Specialty & Oncology FAS is to ensure their team of FAS effectively engages customers to understand key coverage, coding, payment, product acquisition and affordability dynamics for AbbVie products in their local geography. The Director, Specialty & Oncology FAS will spend the majority of time working with the FAS leadership team and periodic ride alongs to ensure the FAS is compliantly and effectively leveraging the tools and materials provided by Abbvie. In addition, the Director, Specialty & Oncology FAS will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring quality control measures to ensure all team members are in compliance with AbbVie expectations and ways of working. The Director, Specialty & Oncology FAS must effectively and compliantly engage with a team of internal stakeholders, including Patient Services, Managed Health Care, Sales, and Access and Reimbursement support hub.

This position requires building strong relationships with internal business partners, collaborating to deliver results, hitting key launch timelines, improving effectiveness, and assisting in delivering a high quality, streamlined patient experience.
  • Ensure team compliance with the appropriate ways of working
  • Lead the development and implementation of patient services access resources and programs into a national execution plan, including identifying training needs, in-field and National/Regional meetings, with the purpose of elevating overall field team effectiveness, including direct report Sr. FAS Managers and the FAS
  • Work with peers in Market Access and Trade across the US Area Specialty & Oncology portfolio to understand the changing Healthcare Landscape and communicates appropriate information to the FAS team
  • Appropriately communicate patient services and access program information to sales teams in a compliant way
  • Utilize analytics tools to monitor call overall team performance, activity and capacity
  • Develop, implement and execute effective skill development plans for direct reports and their teams. Deliver consistent coaching direction via team calls, field-travel and meeting engagements and optimize their ability to provide effective access to support HCPs.
  • Partner with legal and compliance teams to ensure programs are compliant and evolve as needed based on new laws / regulations
  • Strategize, design, and develop multiple aspects for patient support program
  • Work closely with Patient Support Services colleagues and IT to ensure data exchanges with the vendor(s) are timely and accurate
  • Develop, monitor and advance development planning process with direct reports and their FAS teams.

  • Bachelor's degree; MBA or advanced degree required
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in coverage, coding, managed healthcare, and/or market access in immunology in Managed Health Care, Payer Account Management, Field Reimbursement Manager or equivalent role
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading field teams, successful team coaching, management and personnel development experience
  • Thorough understanding of the technical payer policy processes, systems and requirements for coverage, coding and payment for specialty medicines
  • Demonstrated understanding of the rules, regulations and risks associated with provision of reimbursement support services and how to monitor and mitigate for those risks
  • Comprehensive understanding of Parts A, B, C and D or Medicare and associated reimbursement dynamics
  • Strong understanding of drug acquisition and dispensing in the immunology specialty biologics space (role of Buy and Bill, Specialty Pharmacies, Specialty Distributors, etc.)
  • Track record of strong leadership contributions
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • Valid Driver's License
