Project Architect
The purpose of this role is to apply architectural and engineering knowledge and ingenuity to complex assignments in the Global Facilities Management organization that is responsible for AbbVie's facility projects globally.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Develops strategic architectural planning for facilities across the AbbVie portfolio of administrative, laboratory, and manufacturing spaces; implements workplace and facility strategies to design state of the art facilities; provides overall strategic design direction on AbbVie's major facility projects; contributes architectural discipline expertise as the Subject Matter Expert, both internally and with external firms; develops and implements architectural layouts and master plans; performs code reviews and facility assessments.
- Independently executes and/or supports the design and execution of facility projects by applying architectural and engineering theories, concepts, and techniques while coordinating across the disciplines.
- Conceptualizes complete solutions; creates or coordinates the design solutions for novel or complex problems; integrates regulatory and operational needs; assesses cost benefit.
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert in the architecture discipline; participates in internal, cross-divisional teams to develop and align practices and standards.
- Manages multiple, often concurrent, projects and meets deadlines; makes difficult decisions regarding priorities between projects.
- Maintains project controls and reporting for cost, scope and schedule; develops execution strategy including procurement; balances multiple demands within an assignment, e.g. executes contingency plans to recover from schedule slippage and financial overruns.
- Understands the business needs of the company and has a thorough knowledge of the customer's needs when developing a project scope; incorporates business foresight of emerging technological trends.
- Independently performs economic analysis and feasibility studies related to complex and often multiple competing project alternatives; responsible for achieving the project's financial targets with clear understanding and focus on life cycle costs.
- Mentors others by sharing technical expertise and providing feedback and guidance; where appropriate, provides tasks/project assignment opportunities for employee development and evaluates performance.
- Builds relationships; initiates and cultivates open, honest relationships with colleagues, customers, contractors, and suppliers by establishing rapport, developing an understanding of others' needs, promoting common goals, and following through on commitments, e.g. offers assistance; interacts effectively with stakeholders at appropriate levels of the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master's Degree in Architecture or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a desired 8+ years of significant architectural experience. A post-graduate education / degree is desired and may contribute to the desired years of experience.
- Licensed Architect strongly preferred
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory design experience preferred; broad biopharmaceutical collaboration experience preferred
- Proficient with AutoCAD required, Revit preferred
- Strong project management skill set and organization/coordination skills
- Experienced in working in cross-functional teams and global projects.
- Ability to interact effectively with (verbally and in writing) all levels of the organization
- Analytical reasoning abilities, intellectual curiosity, strong business acumen, and creativity in problem solving; active in associations outside of AbbVie to gain perspectives and insight
- Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of the team to enable higher performance.
- Learns fast, grasps the essence, and can change course quickly where indicated.
