Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individuals to join our Summer Internship Program! As an intern at Kite, you'll have the unique opportunity to learn about cell therapy from some of the brightest minds in biotech while making a meaningful impact. The Role:

The Intern will be a contributing member in the T Cell Biology team, focused on POC (proof of concept) in-vitro evaluation of LVV (lentiviral) constructs to edit T cells, in efforts to diminish AICD (Activation induced cell death) and enhance persistence.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

In vitro POC activities will include, primary T cell manufacturing with LVV transduction, flow cytometry to evaluate CAR and edit expression, and functional read out assays such as; apoptosis by flow cytometry, co-culture characterization (activation of CAR T cells by T cell antigen positive cancer lines, target cell cytotoxicity, T cell proliferation in response to antigen activation and cytokine secretion) and serial killing to monitor T cell expansion and cytotoxicity during repeated CAR-T cell re-challenge with target lines.
  • Work with mentor for planning/coordinating lab activities and training
  • Manufacture and culture CAR T cells
  • Plan and execute in vitro functional assays including: primary cell culture, T cell transduction, cytotoxicity, cytokine measurement by ELISA, T cell proliferation and flow cytometry analysis
  • Maintain target cell lines for in vitro functional assays
  • Effectively communicate project plans and results in both written and oral forms
  • Independently seek published literature materials to acquire a broader understanding of the project


Basic Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Must be currently enrolledin a full time Bachelor's program at an accredited university/college
  • Must have completed at least one year of study at an accredited university/college prior to internship commencing
  • Must be enrolled in the Fall Semester at an accredited university/college after the completion of the internship
  • Must be able to complete a 10-12 consecutive week internship between June and September
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without Kite sponsorship
  • Must not be employed at the time the internship starts


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree concentration(s) in Immunology, Biotechnology, Cell or Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Ability to identify issues and seek solutions
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Efficient, organized, and able to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of lab operations and instrumentation (like pipetting and lab safety)
  • College level course work in Cell Biology
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Experience with multi-color flow cytometry
