Environmental Health and Safety Manager - Campbell, CA

WHAT YOUR NEW MANAGER WANTS YOU TO KNOW:

"We are looking for a technical professional to drive AbbVie's strong EHS culture at our biologics site. An ideal candidate will work across departments on all aspects of EHS along with global colleagues. Experience and a focus on the manufacturing environment and leadership are key. Creativity to solve challenges and improve our approaches, drive leadership in EHS and continuously improve our programs is key. This position is expected to be a member of the site leadership team and contributing to multiple aspects of the business. *YOU ARE more than just a title, YOU ARE... accountable for the development and management of assigned EHS programs and processes that identify, evaluate and control hazards inherent in the pharmaceutical production activities at the site. This position's efforts will be responsible for maintaining full compliance with all federal, state, local regulations and AbbVie EHS requirements and programs to continually improve EHS performance.

YOU WILL:

Excel as the facilities safety expert. Establish and implement site level standard operating procedures based on EHS requirements. You will create, promote, administer and review EHS related programs. You will be responsible and accountable for ensuring that the facility is in full compliance with federal, state, local and Corporate Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements, rules and regulations.

Be the lead investigator. You will be accountable for the effective resolution of noncompliance events, environmental releases, work-related injuries and illnesses if/when they occur, including determination of systemic causes, and corrective and preventive actions. You will work with the site EHS team to ensure employees are properly trained on EHS related topics as required by federal, state, local and AbbVie rules and regulations.

Partner. Work outside formal boundaries to help drive overall site performance and culture in all areas, keeping EHS as the base focus.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain Site EHS standards, policies, systems and programs applicable to area of responsibility
  • Drive and lead the EHS department to align with site goals and develop programs and continuous improvement efforts that support safely delivering output.
  • Develop and manage staff through hiring, managing performance, developing talent and providing clear expectations.
  • Provide EHS leadership and direction for management, professional, technical and support staff in area of responsibility
  • Ensure systems are in place to enable area of responsibility to operate in legal and ethical compliance with regard to EHS issues.
  • Provide business perspective, strategic and tactical direction to develop and implement EHS initiatives for the EHS Long range plan
  • Authority to represent AbbVie externally on matters related to EHS with external regulatory agencies and non-government organizations
  • Maintain a broad understanding of local, regional and global EHS regulations and practices for area of responsibility
  • Maintain and update IT reporting databases and generate monthly and quarterly EHS performance reports to area management.


Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years experience, 10-15 years preferred depending on experience, education and field.
  • Bachelor's Degree (EHS related, Engineering, Technical Field) or Master's Degree (EHS related, Engineering). EHS related experience in manufacturing/ R&D environments are required.
  • EHS or Engineering professional certification is preferred, but not required.
  • Working experience in implementing EHS regulations, conducting incident investigations, interacting with regulatory agencies and external organizations and managing cross functional teams.
  • Development of practical, applicable standards and/or policies that meet business objectives. Technical expertise in the EHS functions as well as technical writing and business communications.
  • Ability to actively listen, build and maintain effective working relationships with internal/ external colleagues and stakeholders, and resolve conflict.
  • Experience in other pharmaceutical functions such as operations, quality, maintenance, or engineering is a plus.
  • Experience achieving ISO certification desirable.
  • Ability to successfully manage project and programs.
