The company's precision medicine platform, Prometheus 360, combines proprietary bioinformatics discovery methods with one of the world's largest gastrointestinal bioinformatics databases to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop therapeutic candidates to engage those targets. Prometheus is guided by its board of directors, led by Chairman Tachi Yamada, M.D., and a scientific advisory board composed of key opinion leaders in IBD, including Stephan Targan, M.D., William Sandborn, M.D. and Dermot P. McGovern, M.D., Ph.D. In addition, Prometheus has entered into collaborations to develop targeted therapies for IBD.

Prometheus Biosciences is seeking an experienced immunologist to lead its immunology research activities. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary matrixed team to identify and prosecute novel therapeutic approaches to target key pathogenic pathways in autoimmunity, particularly in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

The successful candidate has a deep technical and scientific background in immunology and inflammation and is committed to advancing drug development through the investigation of patient-derived tissues and clinical biomarker identification. Reporting directly to the Chief Scientific Officer, the Head of Immunology Research will benefit from Prometheus' industry-leading bioinformatics approaches, databases and clinical biorepository to identify novel drug targets and biomarkers and will work closely with the Discovery and Development teams to translate innovative immunology science into clinical candidates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the field of immune/inflammatory disease research and keeps up to date with scientific and technological advances
  • Is responsible for developing and implementing new technologies to enable immuno-profiling of disease from human samples and preclinical models, to support therapeutic and biomarker programs
  • Helps to shape Prometheus' discovery pipeline strategy, prioritization and execution
  • Provides nuanced and well-informed scientific direction to senior management and the research teams
  • Helps resolve project hurdles by utilizing available information and technical expertise
  • Identifies and executes collaborations with key academic groups, CROs, and biotech/pharma companies
  • Independently designs, executes, and interprets critical experiments to answer scientific questions
  • Publishes research in peer-reviewed journals and presents work at scientific forums
  • May mentor/supervise a team of scientists and evaluates the performance of those individuals; is accountable for the effective performance of the team/individuals

  • PhD or equivalent post-graduate degree in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related field with 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong experimental background and experience in hypothesis-driven biological/translational research with demonstrated ability to plan well-designed experiments in immunology and inflammation.
  • Proven track record of leading original research as evidenced by significant conceptual/technical advances and/or high-profile publications.
  • Experience with genomic, epigenetic, gene expression, metabolomics, multiplexed protein detection or other related emerging platforms or data sets is desirable.
  • Experienced working with CRO, external collaborations, and internal matrixed teams to drive complex programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral).
  • Experience in writing pharmacology section of regulatory dossiers is desirable.
  • Ability to effectively communicate cross-functionally with team members throughout the organization.
