Prometheus Biosciences, Inc. is a privately held biotechnology company pioneering a precision medicine approach to the discovery, development, and commercialization of novel therapeutic and companion diagnostic products for the treatment and diagnosis of IBD. The company's precision medicine platform, Prometheus 360, combines proprietary bioinformatics discovery methods with one of the world's largest gastrointestinal bioinformatics databases to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop therapeutic candidates to engage those targets. Prometheus is guided by its board of directors, led by Chairman Tachi Yamada, M.D., and a scientific advisory board composed of key opinion leaders in IBD, including Stephan Targan, M.D., William Sandborn, M.D. and Dermot P. McGovern, M.D., Ph.D. In addition, Prometheus has entered into collaborations to develop targeted therapies for IBD.

We are seeking a Chief Business Officer will provide leadership in the evaluation, development, implementation, and management of partnerships, collaborations, and/or acquisitions. This key strategic role will work closely with the CEO, CFO, and R&D team to evaluate opportunities, develop relationships with external parties, and ensure the corporate business development strategy is successful. The individual within this role will help drive corporate strategy, business and corporate development, new product planning, and alliance management. This role will report to the company's CEO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and execute all aspects of corporate development initiatives from lead generation to close, with an emphasis on licensing, strategic alliances and commercial partnerships
  • Support in all business development activities and due diligence which includes valuation modeling, partner outreach, and managing technical and business due diligence processes
  • Source company partnership opportunities from an extensive global network of contacts: screen, analyze and identify potential collaborators, license and acquisition opportunities
  • Prepare, evaluate and present robust financial modeling and analyses to value projects and terms
  • Direct the scope, timeline, budget, and resources and milestones for business development projects.
  • Communicate a deep understanding of Prometheus' pipeline, technologies, current and future markets
  • Collaborate with Executive team and lead the development of a global strategic plan and collaborate with Finance team on the corporate long-range plan
  • Contribute to business strategy through analysis of evolving market, R&D/competitive landscape, business needs and objectives
  • Understand the provide input on all financial analyses for future revenue projections as well as deal valuation modeling to ensure the highest value for our licenses and partnerships
  • Monitor and analyze the competitive space, consider impacts on strategic positioning
  • Work on CEO and Board-related strategy projects as needed
  • All other duties as assigned or necessary

Required qualifications:
  • Minimum of 15 years of related experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Healthcare corporate strategy and transactional business development experience required
  • Three plus years investment banking, strategic consulting, or related experience strongly preferred
  • Deal / track record of successful identification, diligence and closing of opportunities
  • GI experience strongly preferred
  • Exceptional project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects in a cross-functional environment with good understanding of project management process
  • Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking and leadership, with strong abilities in relationship management
  • Demonstrated competency in conflict management, influence and negotiation skills
  • Strong ability to influence outcomes without direct authority and ability to hold oneself and others accountable for commitments
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with excellent follow-up abilities
  • Strong familiarity with preclinical science, drug development and lifecycle management of pharmaceuticals
  • Ability to create and deliver effective presentations to working teams and senior management
  • Ability to create complex excel-based forecasts, NPV models and returns analyses
  • Strong communicator and presenter, with the ability to persuade others and foster open communication across internal and external groups
  • An excellent network in the biopharma industry

Educational requirements:
  • Master's-level degree in the life sciences; MD or PhD preferred; MBA preferred
