The Associate Director, Payer Operations (ADPO) is part of the Value & Access (V&A) team within US Medical Affairs and oversees AbbVie's US medical payer operations. The ADPO will have primary responsibility over US Medical field metrics & reporting, providing strategic business intelligence from customer insights & analytics, and serving as a strategic consultant to internal matrix partners to drive business results. Specifically, the ADPO is responsible for the operational needs of the V&A team related to field systems and technology, customer collaborative research and V&A reporting; serve as a key strategic consultant to the US Field Medical Excellence (USFME), the Clinical Analytics and Operations (CA&O), and Market Analytics & Business Intelligence (MABI) departments; represent V&A operational needs within the internal USMA organization, as necessary. The ADPO will leverage scientific knowledge, managed markets acumen, and health economic and analytics skills to provide relevant data and consult to influence medical payer strategy and appropriate field medical payer tactics across AbbVie's portfolio.

  • Operational Excellence with oversight of V&A operations, driving efficiency and innovation in various V&A work processes; Work with V&A leadership team to define activities/support strategy and provide execution plan and process to Field team; Support V&A leadership team with special projects, as directed, including oversight & efficiency to the triage process of internal clinical support for the Field team, as necessary
  • Supports product pre-launch, launch and post-launch activities and communication, as applicable, In partnership with V&A Leadership team, management of V&A medical field team product training program
  • Provide oversight, tracking, reporting of activities, communications and deliverables, as appropriate,
  • Oversight of V&A reporting, including Field metrics, value story and analytics.
  • Primary V&A strategic partner to key stakeholders (CA&O, USFME) impacting field metrics reporting, systems, and compliance. Primary V&A strategic partner to MABI to leverage appropriate data & analytics to influence US medical payer strategy in partnership with appropriate V&A stakeholder across entire AbbVie Portfolio
  • Serve as team compliance subject-matter expert (SME) and partner with V&A Leadership team to address department-specific SOP related activities, including representing V&A in compliance-related workgroups
  • Analyze customer trends from compiled data point observations and provide actionable data to V&A; Captures, reports and interprets customer inquiries and data point observations to help inform V&A's healthcare access decision maker (HCDM) medical engagement strategy; Provide feedback on field tool content based on strategic insights and inquiries collected from customers and other key HCDM Customers
  • Support the management of health outcomes related projects and research initiatives and help the prioritization process as appropriate to meet V&A strategic goals; Facilitate the completion data analytics/reporting on health-outcomes related projects and research initiatives to support V&A strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the US Medical Affairs Therapeutic Area, Health Economics Outcomes Research (HEOR) External Strategies and other matrix partners to ensure alignment with overall payer research collaboration goals.
  • Completes all required training, expense reporting, and other individual administrative responsibilities; Conducts all business activities in accordance with corporate policy and state/federal law


  • Pharm.D., M.D., Ph.D., preferred or other recognized education with supporting applicable health science background
  • Minimum 5 years pharmaceutical industry experience or managed care industry experience
  • Field-based medical experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or experience within a key managed market segment is highly preferred; Direct payer experience is highly preferred
  • Prior operational experience highly preferred; Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data collection, data mining and data visualization
  • Ability to manage multiple processes and projects required; Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment
  • Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine managed markets, pharmacoeconomics, disease population management and healthcare trends desired
  • Ability to communicate scientific and clinical information to colleagues and stakeholders
  • Experience in the Immunology, Oncology, Neuro, Urology, CNS, GI, Women's Health, Hepatology and/or Eye Care disciplines preferred
  • Strong competency in evidence-based medicine with the ability to differentiate and communicate clinical and overall product value
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, analytic and project-management skills, strong personal integrity, teamwork abilities, and customer focus are necessary
  • Must possess a thorough understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
