Amgen has a new opportunity for a Business Performance Manager for our Operational Excellence group, in Thousand Oaks, CA.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who, under minimal guidance, will be responsible for leading all aspects of key initiatives and projects across multiple business functions in support of our Operational Excellence program.

This role will enable business areas/plants to improve efficiency by reducing rework and waste through the use and application of Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies. The role will report to Operational Excellence Sr. Mgr.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Carries out sophisticated or novel assignments to improve and optimize business process performance with the use Operational Excellence improvement methodologies
  • Lead or supports complex high impact projects
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of OE principles and practices in broad areas of assignments
  • Identifies ways to improve the manufacturing and support processes to ensure the highest quality, lowest cost and shortest lead time
  • Develops labor/machine standards and models to identify gaps and identifies and executes actions to remediate them
  • Perform resource gap analysis (machine and labor), develop novel strategies and plans to close these gaps, and drive the implementation of the plans
  • Provides day-to-day OE coaching to personnel to achieve expected business results
  • Assist in implanting and supporting OE tools such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Visual Controls, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen, Mistake-Proofing, Standard Work and Daily Management Systems
  • Develop recommendations, drive decisions, and deliver presentations to key partners
  • Utilize network and relationships to identify business requirements and potential opportunities

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree
Or

Master's degree in engineering, business management or life science & 2 years of experience in operations / life science industry
Or

Bachelor's degree in engineering, business management or life science & 4 years of experience in operations / life science industry
Or

Associate degree in engineering, business management or life science & 10 years of experience in operations / life science industry
Or

High school diploma / GED & 12 years of experience in operations / life science industry

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree (Science, Engineering, MBA) in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management or other engineering discipline & 2 years of Operational Excellence related experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries
  • 5 years of experience in Industrial Engineering and/or Operational Excellence related roles
  • Minimal 2 years' experience in a highly regulated business environment
  • Leader with a demonstrated ability to develop and work in a high-performing environment
  • Experience in applying Lean Six Sigma tools such as Value Stream Mapping, 5S, Visual Controls, Root Cause Analysis, Kaizen, Mistake-Proofing, Standard Work and Daily Management Systems
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate across various parts of the organization
  • Adept in breaking down complex issues to enable prompt decision-making
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, and use sound judgment to draw conclusions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while delivering quality results. Handle responsibilities and priorities and tasks under minimal supervision
