Job Summary:

This position, reporting to the Sr. Director of FP&A, will be responsible for supporting the operational finance needs of the clinical development, medical affairs and regulatory teams. Responsibilities will include budgeting/forecasting, spending review and analysis, process/policy design and optimization as pertains to accounting and finance processes impacting development, the review or preparation of clinical expense accruals for quarterly and monthly financial close periods, serving as a business partner to the development teams to identify opportunities for potential cost savings and operating efficiencies, participating in the identification and implementation of systems that support development finance operations, and other duties as required. This role will serve as the primary liaison between finance and clinical development and will work to maintain a close relationship between the two functional areas. As this is a new role at the company, the individual in this position will help build new processes, will participate in new system implementations, will establish and grow internal relationships and help refine the scope of this role as our operating needs evolve.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with development operations to effectively budget and forecast operating costs and capital expenditures
  • Prepare and present regular financial updates to development and finance leadership
  • Assess internal system needs and participate in system implementations
  • Partner with the accounting organization to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial information with respect to clinical development
  • Assist with the quarterly preparation and/or review of clinical development cost accruals
  • Work closely with the FP&A team to monitor and analyze development financial results vs. plan and effectively communicate information and conclusions
  • Partner with the development team leadership to manage finance activities, help identify areas of potential cost savings or needed operating efficiencies and assist in the implementation of changes and improvements as appropriate
  • Assist the accounting team with quarterly close preparations by providing analysis for variances in clinical development operating results (i.e. preparation or review of audit flux reports)
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and financial modeling/forecasting to support key management decision-making

Qualifications (including knowledge & skills):

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, driven and possess excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working in the biotech industry with a working business knowledge of clinical development. The candidate should have a strong track record of working in a dynamic environment with competing priorities. This candidate should have prior experience working with clinical operations, partnering with a clinical development team and supporting business unit managers. This individual will have an aptitude for effective communication at all levels of an organization. A minimum 8+ years of experience in a corporate finance support role is required. This candidate should have excellent analysis skills, should think strategically and have prior experience in finance, budgeting and financial analysis.
