Novartis Gene Therapies (GTx) platform development group is seeking a motivated intern to contribute to implementation of novel advances in the gene therapy field to enable safe and efficacious treatment strategies. The ideal candidate a will be a student currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate, master's or doctoral program majoring in a relevant scientific field, with experience in areas such as cell and molecular biology, genomics, rodent studies and/or tissue handling and processing for biochemical and molecular characterization. The role will give the chosen candidate an opportunity to learn about the biotechnology industry in a hands-on manner, to pursue an exciting summer gene therapy project and to interact with our leaders, experts and colleagues in Novartis research centers across the world.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the establishment and optimization of assays and to characterize treatment efficacy and safety in target/nontarget cells from cell-based and animal studies.
  • Learn cutting edge virology, immunology, cell and molecular biology methods, AAV vector design and production.
  • Expand knowledge regarding rare disease research and considerations for target prioritization and validation.
  • Under supervision, maintain immortalized/primary/iPS cell culture, conduct hands-on laboratory work with AAVs.

Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, master's or doctoral program, majoring in biology, virology, immunology, neuroscience, bioengineering cell/molecular biology, or related scientific discipline.
  • Experience with cell/molecular biology with techniques including PCR, RT-qPCR, ddPCR analysis, microscopy, ELISA/MSD/ Western-Blot, cell culture, transfection, or viral transduction are desired.
  • Candidates with experience in gene therapy, NGS, genomics, and immunology are preferred.
  • A willingness to learn and contribute to GTx's mission and goals

  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.


The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
