The District Manager position is responsible for leading a team of 5 to 10 Eye Care Account Consultants (Sales Representatives) that are focused on expanding the adoption of a new product that will disrupt the current disease treatment paradigm. The District Manager leads the field sales execution of new product adoption within targeted eye care accounts through effective prospecting, onboarding and expansion of use of designated eye care products to achieve sales objectives. The field sales team delivers technical product and procedure training; consultative selling and comprehensive account management to support customer understanding, adoption and broaden utilization.

This position is responsible for hiring, developing, leading and motivating a highly technical buy and bill specialty field sales team. The District Manager proactively ensures all aspects of employee related issues are managed appropriately; including ensuring policy, procedures and reporting systems are understood and implemented in a manner that delivers compliant execution across the team.

The District Manager is responsible for understanding and utilizing resources to increase adoption of the AbbVie portfolio, and ensure consistent execution across their team to meet and exceed units and sales goals. The District Manager is responsible for ensuring their team develops and maintains effective working relationships with other AbbVie sales personnel and support teams. These teams include, but are not limited to, AbbVie sales teams, Customer Service (Austin), RBAs, MSLs, Key Account Managers, and Marketing.

Supervises 5-10 Eye Care Account Consultants (sales representatives)


Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • At least 2 years of successful industry related sales management experience
  • Experience in a "buy and bill" Medicare Part B / Medical benefit environment preferred
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive

Essential Skills, Experience, and Competencies (includes Licenses, Credentials)
  • Broad knowledge of the Healthcare, Medical Device and Pharmaceutical Industries
  • Experience and knowledge with/in:
    • Formulating and establishing systems and process for an evolving/new sales organization
    • General sales/marketing principles and concepts within the healthcare environment
    • Inner working of a physician practice and health care delivery system
    • Developing successful customer business plans
    • Compensation plan design and administration, manpower planning and sales force deployment
  • Successful launch experience leading teams strongly preferred
  • Willingness & Ability to Collaborate with multiple internal/external stakeholders simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, including podium skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish trustworthy customer and partner relationships
  • Experience selling in a "buy and bill" Medicare part B/Medical benefit environment and understanding of reimbursement challenges and opportunities strongly preferred
  • Complete account management experience to ensure "procedure based" therapy adoption success
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to prioritize and manage a high-volume geography with multiple accounts
  • Ability to analyze business, create and execute a business plan
  • Strong problem resolution skills and general business acumen
  • Ability to maintain effectiveness and positive outlook during changes in work tasks, structure or environment
  • Exhibit a high degree of flexibility in adapting to a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to travel adequately to cover territory, as well as overnight attendance at scheduled training and meetings
