Job Summary:

The Director, Global Medical Affairs (GMA) Oncology, MSL Excellence is accountable for ensuring the strategic alignment of MSL activities across Daiichi Sankyo (DS) regions. In collaboration with the GMA Team (GMAT) leads, regional medical affairs (RMA) leads and Regional Field Medical Affairs (FMA) teams, leads the development, delivery and reporting of prioritized MSL Excellence initiatives in support of assigned compound(s). In alignment with Senior Director, Global MSL Excellence and Regional FMA leadership, provides strategic direction and oversight on implementation of Global policies, processes and initiatives to build Oncology-specific MSL and MSL Leader capabilities and shape the future field medical role in Oncology.

  • Active contributor and member of the Global Medical Affairs Team (GMAT) to ensure alignment of global and field medical strategies for assigned compound
  • Provide direction and oversight of MSL engagements and tactical execution as it pertains to the global strategy for assigned compound
  • Ensure alignment with the framework for MSL support of priority clinical trials and consistent communication flow to FMA and MSLs
  • Monitor and report MSL activities and ensure alignment with agreed global Oncology key performance indicators (KPIs) and key quality indicators (KQIs), including insights collection
  • Work with the GMA Oncology Scientific Engagement lead to implement the medical insight collection process for KEE engagements and CT support
  • Collaborate with Regional Medical Affairs Leads to provide insights to GMA regarding the diverse needs of Regional FMA teams to support strategic alignment of prioritized initiatives
  • Implement and monitor execution of quarterly MSL metrics for engagement
  • Identification of training resource needs (scientific, study, etc.) for GMAT lead action accordingly
  • Implements the minimum standards and expectations of the MSL role and guidance on standard metrics for FMA teams
  • Develop aligned MSL training curriculums in partnership with Global Medical Information & Education and GMAT lead, regional, and field medical affairs leads for the assigned compound
  • Partner with regional FMA teams to ensure strategic alignment of field medical affairs activities with regards to Operational Excellence and efficiencies across the regions
  • Partner with stakeholders to provide strategic alignment of Global MSL Excellence objectives
  • Provide insight, guidance, influence and expertise that ensures global vision for MSL role is well understood
  • Support the effective and efficient implementation of Global MSL Excellence initiatives that result in consistent, valued outcomes and maximum in-country impact
  • May lead a cross-functional Joint Field Medical Team to ensure strategic alignment of field medical affairs activities for assigned compound and oversee the strategy for MSLs
Qualifications: Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Advanced degree in scientific discipline (e.g., Masters, PhD, PharmD, MD)
  • 8+ years of relevant experience; 5 years of experience within pharmaceutical industry at either local, regional and/or global level. Oncology experience highly desirable.
  • Must possess strong knowledge in and understanding of medical affairs activities relating to the commercialization of oncology products
  • Effectively manages activities and optimize resources and budget to meet business needs; have excellent project management skills
  • Build strong internal and external relationships with diverse stakeholders to maximize alignment and organizational effectiveness
  • Expertly manage ambiguity and highly complex situations
  • Experience managing and leading MSL and Medical Affairs teams
  • Experience with MSL performance management and outcomes-based reporting
