The Regeneron Genetics Center® (RGC) is a uniquely integrated research initiative that seeks to improve patient care by using genomic approaches to speed drug discovery and development. RGC is currently conducting one of the largest genetics sequencing efforts in the world. We are seeking a Genetic Privacy Lawyer, reporting to and assisting Regeneron's Chief Privacy Officer, to ensure full compliance with all applicable privacy laws and regulations, with an additional focus of genetic privacy concerns across Regeneron.

AS A GENETICS PRIVACY LAWYER, A TYPICAL DAY MAY INCLUDE:
  • Working closely with the Chief Privacy Officer and other individuals with privacy and data handling responsibilities across Regeneron to build strategies and develop global and regional approaches to complex privacy matters involving systems and data processing activities.
  • Partnering with the law department on privacy matters relating to business scientific research and the collection and management of samples and personal data.
  • Collaborating with the law department in the drafting of privacy provisions, ICF templates modifications, and providing counsel on extraction and management of genetic data globally.
  • Proactively managing risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies, ensuring that these are identified, mitigated as necessary.
  • Monitoring changes in global genetic privacy laws and regulatory environment and monitoring advancements in information privacy technologies to ensure awareness, adaptation and compliance, as needed.
  • Developing and leading comprehensive multi-phase project plans that address required actions, accountability and delivery landmarks.
  • Augmenting privacy training materials and other communications to address genetic privacy concerns with employees, third parties, officials and customers where appropriate.
  • Working with business teams and senior management to ensure awareness of standard methodologies on genetic data protection issues.
  • Serve as advising counsel to the RGC Leadership Group on all matters relating to data privacy.
  • Providing counsel and training to the RGC business development, program management and scientific teams in the engagement of third parties involving the exchange of human subject's data and the management and sharing of genetic data.
  • Advising the RGC in the development and review of standard operating procedures for all matters relating to data privacy.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE, YOU MUST HAVE:

A Law degree, Masters' degree in data privacy and/or a focus on bioethics or genomics highly preferred; lAPP Certifications particularly CIPP/US and CIPP/E a plus; At least 5 years' experience in the privacy profession, with at least 3 years working in or with genetics testing/genomic analysis, DNA sequencing, big data genomics, pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies on data privacy related activities including those related to genetics, precision medicine and study subject personal data; Knowledge of legal, regulatory, compliance and business environment for the pharmaceutical research industry; In-depth knowledge of US federal and state statutes and regulations regarding genetic information; In-depth knowledge of global privacy laws and regulation and related genetics, biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry; Experience in contract drafting/review and third-party negotiating skills, preferred.
