EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

Position Summary:

The Executive Director, Program Management (PM) is responsible for leading and building the program management department at GBT and is accountable for all department deliverables to product development teams (PDTs) and governance committees at GBT. In addition, this position manages the activities of the R&D Committee in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Scientific Officer, Head of Technical Operations, Head of Medical Affairs, and Project Team Leaders (PTLs). Program managers at GBT organize and support activities on cross-functional PDTs and its sub-teams (e.g., non-clinical, clinical, CMC, commercial) as assigned. PM deliverables also include dashboards that allow the PDTs, its sub-teams, governance committees and the senior management team to quickly understand progress against goals, identification of interdependencies, and an assessment of risk, timelines, cost. The position reports to the Head of Research and Development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Recruits and develops a team of program managers at the appropriate levels to support the PDTs, its sub-teams and governance committees, as needed
  • Ensures all PM deliverables are fit-for-purpose, scalable, and easy to understand for decision-making
  • Mentors the PM team, so PDT meetings and sub-team meetings are efficient and achieve their stated outcomes
  • Uses the necessary organization communication tools horizontally and vertically to ensure decisions are made at the right venue and understood by all stakeholders
  • Participates on governance committees by authoring agendas, recording key discussion points and decisions, and following up on action items
  • Partners with the PTLs and senior management to establish governance process and ensure that the PDTs and its sub-teams are operating effectively throughout the year (i.e., goal setting, tracking progress against goal, focusing on goals that are at risk)
  • Partners with functional owners of the target product profile (TPP), product development plan (PDP) and other strategic documents to create standard templates and tools and ensure effective review process of these documents by the senior management team and associated governance committees
  • Manages the PM Department budget and headcount planning
  • Identifies the needs for and oversees the creation of new PM department Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs)


Qualifications:

 

 

  • At least a bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or relevant field; A graduate degree preferred
  • PMP certification a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years program management experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on the product development continuum (non-clinical, clinical, CMC, commercial, lifecycle)
  • Minimum of 5 years of line management experience overseeing a team of full-time and consultant program managers at both the departmental and cross-functional level
  • Can point to a consistent track record of creating fit-for-purpose program management deliverables, including, but not limited to, portfolio dashboards that identify interdependencies and illustrate the intersection of speed, budget, risk, and differentiation. Proven success in goal setting and prioritization
  • Is a subject-matter expert in the creation and application of off-the-shelf and customized program management software programs (e.g., Microsoft Project, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Notes, One Pager, pictorial representations)
  • Strong and strategic team builder with demonstrated ability to recruit, lead and mentor PMs
