AbbVie Information Research is seeking an established data architect to deliver key technology functionality in the foundational data convergence platform for AbbVie Research and Development. This role will engineer and operationalize the creation and population of data-at-rest technology capabilities to support the AbbVie Research Convergence Hub (ARCH) program.

Under the direction of the Convergence Platform Program Lead, and delivering on the vision of executive leadership, you will build a data lifecycle ecosystem capable of supporting a large scale and variety of data sources among a wide range of data consumers and use cases. This role combines hands-on technology, data management, and product management to deliver unprecedented data analytics capabilities.

This is an opportunity to become part of the team building an integrated R&D data and analytics platform - the AbbVie Research Convergence Hub (ARCH) - to power data-driven insights that ultimately lead to better, faster decisions and therapies for patients. You will help enable and grow our culture of data driven insights and decision making. You will help drive R&D productivity through shortening cycle times. Most importantly, by helping to unlock information like deeper understanding of novel therapies, biomarkers that are predictive of response, novel endpoints, and many more concepts you will make cures possible and will make a remarkable impact in the lives of our people and patients.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead data-at-rest for the ARCH platform, including data repositories
  • Manage technical data sourcing efforts, comprising many petabytes of information, from internal and external systems and repositories
  • Own and implement the ARCH Canonical Data Model and ontologies for research and regulated domains
  • Liaise and align with enterprise data management and data governance groups
  • Integrate data source management with data asset tracking and management systems and processes
  • Enable and facilitate efficient implementation of governance processes around data assets
  • Manage external partners involved in development of the ARCH platform
  • Drive for continuous improvement and enablement through close collaboration with domain data owners and experts

Qualifications

Related Experience
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education in Science or Technology related field with extensive (typically 16 years) of related work; Master's Degree or equivalent education in Science/Technology or PharmD or equivalent education with extensive (typically 14 years) of related work; PhD in Science/Technology or related field with typically 8-10 years of related work experience.
  • Technical background in healthcare, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices or pharmaceutical companies.
  • Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved technology solutions with remarkable impact on company productivity.
  • Interacts well with diverse groups within function and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others in areas of science and technology.
  • Extensive hands-on technical proficiency in SQL, NoSQL, knowledge graphs, data warehousing, and data modeling experience.
  • Metadata management, data quality, master data, and data lineage experience
  • Petabyte-scale data platforms experience

Preferred
  • Highly regulated and restricted data domains experience
  • End-to-end data lifecycle management, including reporting solutions, dashboards, business intelligence, or other user-facing information delivery experience
  • Developing scalable solutions on cloud infrastructure experience
  • Statistics and data science expertise familiarity
  • Familiarity with a variety of programming languages, including Python
  • Agile / DevOps experience
  • Practical experience in a scientific discipline such as biology, pharmacology or related, ideally a BS or related degree

  • Ability to work in an agile, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage time and deliver results across multiple workstreams at once
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple groups within the organization and effectively collaborate with external partners
