Position Summary:

The Horizon Therapeutics Internship Program offers aspiring professionals an opportunity to build a strong foundation of business acumen, technical skills, and knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry. We are committed to providing program participants with experience-based learning, multidimensional assignments, targeted training, and continual coaching and development. This position will primarily support business development activities over the course of the summer with opportunities to support corporate strategy and special project initiatives based on interest, experience, and business needs.

  • Serve as member of business development team supporting the acquisition and licensing of innovative medicines or companies that complement Horizon's existing portfolio and leverage its established commercial infrastructure.
  • Learn to conduct analyses and build presentation materials to support effective communications with executive leadership, investors, sell-side analysts and other key stakeholders.
  • Support the identification, evaluation and execution of acquisitions, licensing opportunities and other related business development transactions that enhance the value of Horizon's business.
    • This will include the creation of detailed financial/valuation, competitive and market analyses, coordination of due diligence efforts and integration of acquired products and companies, among other tasks.

  • Drive cross-functional engagement with multiple business units across the company.
  • Gain a broad understanding of the responsibilities of a business development role in a biopharmaceutical company.
  • Participate in enterprise strategy initiatives and special projects across the broader strategy and business development team, based on interest, former experience, and business needs.
  • Strengthen communication and writing skills for presenting recommendations to executive-level audiences and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Must be attending a Master's degree program with internship program to follow completion of first year
  • Academic background or experience in Business, Finance, Economics or a scientific / medical discipline is required; evidence of strong academic track record (GPA, honors, awards, etc.)
  • 3-5 years of prior experience in investment banking, private equity, or top-tier consulting is required; evidence of career progression and advancement through prior experience
  • Passion and interest in biopharmaceutical industry required with prior direct experience preferred; comfort with, and ability to understand the business implications of the "technical" aspects of the biopharmaceutical business model (e.g., scientific, clinical, regulatory)
  • Exceptional strategic acumen, problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, and leadership ability
  • Strong analytical skills are required; demonstrated experience with financial statements and financial modeling strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint)
  • Strong degree of professionalism and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Self-starter and someone who takes full ownership over work product
