This role will provide engineering and operational oversight of GMP utilities operation and control room services within a large biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment in Clayton, NC. The GMP utilities in scope currently include RO water, Purified Water, Water for Injection, Clean steam, Process Gases, and Ethanol. This role will also liaise between Manufacturing Operations and other utility organizations. The Clayton site continues to grow and as a result the utilities organizations will grow and evolve to keep pace; prior experience in organizational design and staff development is highly desired.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated skills in managing projects to bring in on budget, on schedule, and technically correct.
  • Oversee and supervise all aspects of Engineering in support of business unit.
  • Usually involves management of cross functional teams or significant resources.
  • Benchmarks technology against major competitors.
  • Maintain and monitor budget and expenses.
  • Oversee design, installation, testing, maintenance and enhancement of facilities and equipment.
  • Demonstrates high level of facilitation skills to reach consensus; works toward win-win solutions for business benefit.
  • Develops opportunities within the corporation and with external entities.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, evaluation and development of employees.
  • Meets customer expectations and continuously improves process technology or capital process through improved productivity and quality, in consultation with internal departments and external resources.
  • Manages the necessary resources and suitable technology of the equipment and facilities required to manufacture products in accordance with the safety, environmental, regulatory and business goals and standards.
  • Review and recommend contracts as well as developing cost estimates.
  • Provides effective leadership to employees in engineering operations. Interacts with senior executives, senior technical managers, business heads, customers, and suppliers within and external to the company. Demonstrates high levels of value and integrity. Instills company visions, values and beliefs in others by example. Actively pursues and manages process optimization, project management. Proactively develops positive community and employee relations. Coaches, counsels, manages and directs personnel in appropriate division/business unit assignments relative to hanging priorities, sense of urgency and utilization of multiple skill sets.


Knowledge, skills & abilities:

Knowledge of engineering programs, systems and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the organization. Ability to demonstrate practical applications and flexibility in adapting programs and services to meet specific requirements. Strong analytical skills and the ability to multitask.

Requirements:

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred) or related field of study, advanced degree preferred.

Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.

Minimum 10 years comprehensive experience in a medium sized organization. Biotech or Chemical industry favorable.

Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 6-8 hours per day. Frequent hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasionally walks. Occasionally bends and twists neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 25lbs. Frequently drives to site locations with occasional travel within the United States. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works independently with little guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues. Ability to apply abstract principles to solve complex conceptual issues.
