Molecular Templates is seeking an accomplished and highly-motivated Senior Scientist (Sr. Scientist) to join the Molecular Biology group as part of the research and development (R&D) team. This position will require both lab and strategic responsibilities and will be focused on the management, delegation, and execution of activities to support projects focused on the design, production, characterization, and optimization of novel biologics and ETBs. The Sr. Scientist will drive the advancement of platform technology through the application of in silico tools and strategic in vitro study design. The Sr. Scientist may lead complex projects, project teams, or Molecular Biology functional teams with minimal direct supervision, and is expected to apply good judgment within defined procedures and practices to define appropriate actions. The Sr. Scientist will have direct reports and is expected to contribute to the training and mentoring of more junior team members at the discretion of the management team and in line with R&D priorities.

Job Responsibilities will include:
  • Functions as technical leader and subject matter expert in Molecular Biology techniques used to determine the physical, biochemical, and functional profile of candidate ETBs
  • Independently designs, executes, and troubleshoots experiments in order to evaluate activity of novel biologics and ETBs
  • Manage a team to drive Molecular Biology group activities supporting multiple internal and external programs with a focus on bacterial protein expression
  • Based on methods utilized across industry, develops in silico tools, in vitro assays, and experimental systems for use at MTEM to interrogate ETB biology. This includes assay development and validation, SOP generation and training.
  • Effectively communicate high-level biological concepts across departments and to leadership teams
  • Analyze, draw rational conclusions, and synthesize complex data sets for presentation to team members and management in a clear and timely manner.
  • Functions as a thought leader to support strategic goals and execution of functional group and project team needs.
  • Maintain knowledge of scientific trends, industry processes and pipeline target literature through readings, conferences and seminars in order to contribute to strategic development of novel ETB platforms.
