Who You Are

We seek a superstar computational engineer to support the development of mechanistic disease models for a portfolio of programs developing drugs of different modalities for a set of rare genetic conditions.

The candidate will work within Science Operations, a BridgeBio central team focused on collecting insights from drug development within individual affiliate companies and generalizing them into best practices for the portfolio. The Quantitative Disease Modeling effort is a rigorous exercise in projecting our collective understanding of disease biology, drug properties, and clinical pathophysiology onto a computational framework. Analysis of these models will pressure test our assumptions, inform experimental data collection strategies, and ultimately provide insight into required drug characteristics, clinical biomarkers, and endpoints.

This position will work with internal stakeholders from affiliate teams to inform and iterate through model design, implementation, analysis, and external academic collaborators and advisors through the Steering Committee. This position reports to the head of analytics under the Chief Business Officer of BridgeBio

You will also leverage this expertise and the knowledge generated as we apply the "right drug, right tissue" approach to other genetic diseases with high unmet need. This involves aiding in evaluating new opportunities to treat such diseases and leading the computational analysis that will ultimately be an instrumental part of growing and advancing a broad portfolio of life-changing therapies.

Responsibilities
  • Developing computational models in collaboration with business, scientific, and medical leaders at BridgeBio subsidiaries
  • Reading the scientific literature around a drug and disease, and translating that understanding into mathematical terms, rates, and assumptions
  • Creating software to represent and analyze the mathematical representation of the disease system
  • Communicating results and iterating with business, scientific, and medical stakeholders to produce insights and understanding from models
  • Prioritizing time and model requests to the department to deliver results and maintain optimal focus

Education, Experience & Skills Requirements
  • 5+ years of computational biology or engineering experience
  • Deep understanding of mechanistic modeling strategies including physiologically based pharmacokinetic models, quantitative systems pharmacology, and mass action kinetic models
  • Comfort writing projects from scratch with python or similar high-level programming language
  • Ability to use and understand numerical integration methods/solvers for differential equation models
  • Critical thinker with unassailable reasoning ability from first principles
  • Ability to recognize and manage complexity and uncertainty
  • Strong communicator capable of translating complex computational concepts into accessible language for non-technical audiences
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to proactively identify, define, and drive work in an unstructured environment
  • Program management skills to translate large objectives into project plans and accessible sub-goals
