Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong engineering and operational excellence background to join us as a Senior Engineer in the Cell Therapy Technical Operations, Process Development (PD) Business Operations organization. The successful candidate will lead and support cross-functional projects and operational improvement initiatives to enable our Process Development organization to advance our exciting and expansive CAR T and TCR pipelines and next generation adaptive immunotherapy. The successful candidate will work closely with PD scientific staff and cross-functional stakeholders (such as Environmental Health Safety, Facilities and Engineering, and IT etc) to manage new equipment acquisitions, coordinate facility activities/capital projects, lead the assessment and execution of laboratory equipment software and firmware upgrades, and evaluate and implement new enterprise solutions that improve operational efficiency in the PD Laboratory. The successful candidate will also help drive a culture of continuous improvement within the PD organization by providing support in continuous improvement initiatives across PD, and by building new processes that improve the efficiency of PD Laboratory Operations.

Responsibilities (include but at not limited to) the following:
  • Develop and maintain laboratory policies and procedures for equipment maintenance, laboratory cleanliness and organization, Environmental Health and Safety requirements
  • Develop and implement new processes, programs, and enterprise tools to optimize and standardize key operations within the PD laboratory, such as inventory management, sample management equipment asset management, training programs for equipment operations, and information management.
  • Apply operational excellence principles in leading initiatives to optimize operational efficiency of laboratory operations
  • Develop and maintain training documents for equipment, hazardous waste management, and laboratory safety
  • Serve as a technical authority and point of contact between cross functional groups, sites, and outside collaborations + vendors on new equipment and equipment upgrade initiatives
  • Drive the implementation of the operational excellence program within the PD organization and provide facilitation and coaching on Operational Excellence tools and principles to support projects.
  • Provide technical mentorship to more junior members of the team. May have supervisory responsibilities with future direct reports in the future.

  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemical/Biomedical/Mechanical/Electrical engineering field with 8+ years relevant industry experience in the biopharma / cell therapy industry or Master's degree in the above fields with 6+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt in Operational Excellence, Black Belt preferred.
  • Direct knowledge of biopharmaceutical laboratory and analytical equipment and systems such as bioreactors, centrifuges, liquid nitrogen tanks, incubators, lab information management systems etc. Experience with cell therapy equipment preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding (advanced skills) of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project
  • Strong understanding of cGLP
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to collaboratively lead and work in cross-functional teams
  • Strong track record of integrity and courage, with demonstration of intellectual honesty and ethical decision-making
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced company environment with minimal direction and able to prioritize multiple tasks from multiple customers.
