Position Summary

Reporting to the head of the Information Systems Department, this position will manage the day-to-day technology operations, such as supporting applications, service desk, policies/procedures as they relate to the company's technology infrastructure environment. This position will be responsible for service desk, systems, network, internet connectivity, remote access, security, storage, virtualization, cloud services, data center, voice, mobility, and business continuity. The position is responsible for providing oversight, implementing appropriate controls, and performing regular and effective reviews of all technical aspects, including operational support activities. The goal is to ensure I.T. systems and people are effective and functioning within the limits of security, budget, time, and specifications of the company.

Essential Functions
  • Manages the enterprise I.T. Infrastructure to maintain high availability and superior performance in a 24x7 infrastructure support delivery model.
  • Working with the Facilities Department, manages Data Center operations including power, cooling, networking, external connectivity, cabling, physical security, environmental controls, and general datacenter facilities.
  • Provides management and scheduled maintenance of current infrastructure deployments and advises on strategic enhancements.
  • Provides I.T. event management and incident response.
  • Provisions hardware and software as required for business needs focused on service delivery.
  • With the department head, leads the assessment of current systems and provides recommendations for implementing state-of-the-art systems and that are cohesive across the organization.
  • Helps define, design, plan, and execute technical projects, working with project teams.
  • Identifies security vulnerabilities and recommends strategic solutions to increase data safety.
  • Manages and works with external I.T. vendors on short- and long-term I.T. goals as well as day-to-day operations.
  • With the department head, assists with development and review of I.T. policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by upper management.
  • Helps ensure that business systems are fit for purpose and able to deliver business objectives; Identifies the need for upgrades, configurations, and new systems.
  • Helps champion and lead complex technology projects across departments

With department head, develops IT staff.

Knowledge and Competencies
  • Experienced in technology selection, service agreement maintenance, vendor management and requisitioning processes.
  • Being detail oriented; possessing excellent oral and written communication skills; having the ability to read, analyze and interpret technical computing documents; and exhibiting a continued interest in new technology.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize and quickly adapt to changing situations.

  • Expert at troubleshooting and administering Microsoft Windows endpoints and servers.
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliant systems administration is preferred.
  • Understanding of 21 CFR Part 11 compliance and requirements of computerized systems in GxP environment is preferred.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer related field or equivalent in experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive I.T. experience with a focus in I.T. infrastructure, including technical experience in managing desktops, servers, storage, networks, mobile, data centers, and disaster recovery solutions.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and managing strategic business relationships with technology vendors, suppliers, and internal and external business partners.
  • A track record of high quality, successful, large-scale, complex, on time and on budget delivery of major programs and projects.
  • Experience with relocation of company personnel and I.T. assets to new facilities is strongly preferred, including infrastructure planning and deployment.
  • Experience managing Microsoft 365 and other cloud-based/hosted applications.
  • Track record with life science companies with strong understanding of preclinical, clinical, regulatory, drug safety, quality assurance, and FDA requirements is preferred.
