Responsible for initiating, directing and executing process development on new and existing processes and products.

Primary responsibilities for role:
  • May manage the work of a team working on several distinct process development projects.
  • Works on very complex problems to support process development and product enhancements.
  • Expert in several areas and has a record of successful implementation of new ideas.
  • Develops technical strategies to address process development project requirements.
  • Works with subordinates, plans tasks and resource needs.
  • Responsible for meeting process development project milestones and quality of technical approach.
  • Develops new process and engineering concepts; presents them for management review.
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to plan and supervise execution of complex projects, keep to timelines and prioritize resources. Advanced understanding of Scientific Method, experimental design and statistical analysis. Ability to design both standard and factorial experiments appropriate for process development, across multiple processes and manufacturing systems. Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues across multiple processes and manufacturing systems. Ability to prepare and present very complex studies to medium and large groups. Advanced Technical writing skills. Ability to communicate effectively with upper management. Ability to develop working relationships and collaborations with other divisions and/or external collaborators. Expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts, chemistry, physics, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics. Functional knowledge of mathematical modeling and statistics.


Typically requires a BS Chemical Engineering with ≥10 years related experience, or MS Chemical Engineering with ≥8 years related experience, or PhD Chemical Engineering with ≥6 years related experience in chemical process engineering.


Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. Example: If a job level requires a Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of experience, an equivalency could include 8 years of experience, an Associate's degree with 6 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 2 years of experience.
