AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Senior Scientist to join the In Vitro Immunosafety Group at AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA. The In Vitro Immunosafety group is part of Preclinical Safety in Development Science and is responsible for in vitro analyses to characterize and de-risk preclinical molecules from all therapeutic areas, from early discovery up to IND filing.

As a member of the group, the candidate will execute, analyze, and document flow cytometry based immunosafety assays independently or in coordination with team members. The candidate will leverage expertise to develop and implement novel immunoassays with an emphasis on immunosafety based on the needs of the project. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively on cross functional project teams with other scientists in various therapeutic areas and consult on preclinical safety to de-risk molecules as they advance molecules through development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and document in vitro immunosafety studies to support pre-IND data packages.
  • Consult early discovery, immunology and/or Biologics teams on preclinical safety and represent the Immunosafety group as a subject matter expert.
  • Work and collaborate cross-functionally to anticipate program needs and guide development to de-risk molecules.


  • BS, MS, or PhD in Immunology or closely related field and typically 10 (BS), 8 (MS), or 0 (PhD) years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry, including multi-color panel design, optimization, and analysis.
  • Experience with aseptic technique and establishing immune cell culture.
  • Experience with in vitro and ex vivo cell stimulation and characterization, including ELISPOT and flow cytometry-based analyses.
  • Strong organizational, documentation and communication skills.
  • Competency with software programs, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Experience dendritic cell cultures, peptide loading, and in vitro immunogenicity assays.
  • Experience with qPCR and molecular biology techniques.
