The Manager, International Tax Planning will join the AbbVie Corporate Tax Department and will play an important role in supporting the International Tax Planning team. This position will be primarily responsible for the development and management of planning initiatives in support of strategic business objectives and department goals. The Manager will also assist as needed with US international tax controversies and IRS audit support.

Key responsibilities include the following:
  • Manage the development and execution of sophisticated planning initiatives that are aligned with key business strategies and tax department goals; make recommendations to team members to improve and strengthen project outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain step plans depicting transaction macro steps and US and foreign tax considerations, with input from tax team members and external advisors where necessary.
  • Create models computing US and foreign tax consequences of projects and demonstrate an ability to communicate impacts of transactions to team members and leadership.
  • Build strong relationships within the tax team, and partner with the Transfer Pricing, Tax Operations and Tax Center of Excellence, and Tax Counsel team members.
  • Demonstrate a global mindset; communicate and collaborate with cross-functional team members and affiliates around the world.
  • Research complex international tax issues and positions related to tax planning initiatives and provide audit support as needed.
  • Monitor and analyze final and proposed tax legislation; identify areas for opportunity or development.
  • Provide technical support and collaborate closely with the Tax Operations team to ensure that transactions are properly reported for provision and compliance purposes.

Qualifications

Job Requirements
  • 5-8 years of progressive US international tax experience in Big 4 public accounting and/or publicly held multinational company.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or finance; Masters in Taxation a plus; CPA preferred.
  • Solid U.S. tax technical and research skills; relevant experience developing and implementing cross-border transactions.
  • Experience building and managing complex models for purposes of assessing the tax and financial impacts of transactions and strategic initiatives.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Attention to detail resulting in consistent, reliable and accurate work product.
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team - not only within tax, but across the organization.
  • Resourcefulness and adaptability; self-motivated with ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Strong proficiency with PowerPoint and Excel; experience with SAP and Longview a plus.
