Job Details

We are seeking a biophysical chemist to provide analytical characterization of novel therapeutic modalities using ground breaking technologies to join our Protein Biochemistry team located in Tarrytown, NY. We provide biophysical and biochemical characterization of gene therapy and protein-based therapeutics to support programs in late stage research through IND. We seek someone with knowledge of macromolecular chemistry and experience in gene therapy and protein characterization using an array of analytical tools for analyses. The ability to proactively identify issues and develop solutions in a collaborative setting is vital.

The candidate is encouraged to assume a leading role to deepen our knowledge of therapeutics to support R&D activities and regulatory applications.

In this role, a typical day might involve the following:

- Independently crafting and conducting protein biophysical and biochemical experiments; analyzing data to elucidate quality attributes of gene therapy and protein-based candidates and/or products

- Providing biophysical support for both upstream and downstream functional groups; solving problems in real-time

- Driving efforts to characterize various modalities within specified timelines and working effectively in matrix-based team within protein biochemistry

- Document experiments, results and findings in electronic laboratory notebook; communicating work at group and department meetings; drafting of analytical characterization reports, regulatory submission sections, and peer-reviewed articles for publication

- Serve as a team representative in drug candidate-specific development team meetings, sharing knowledge and expertise of biophysical chemistry at cross-function team meetings

- Assist research associates conducting research and developmental work

This role might be for you if:

- You possess in-depth knowledge of macromolecular solution chemistry and biophysics and how this applies to proteins, polymers, viruses, particles and nucleic acids

- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and enjoy preparing slides, authoring reports and manuscripts for presentations, to enable sharing and peer-reviewed publications

- You are driven to develop and troubleshoot analytical methods in a cutting-edge, scientific environment

To be considered for the role, you must have a PhD in biophysical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent with 0-4+ years post-doctoral training or shown experience in analytical characterization of AAVs, siRNA, and proteins. Experience in or collaboration with the biopharmaceutical industry is highly preferred. Working knowledge of expertise operating light scattering, liquid chromatography, and capillary electrophoresis instrumentation, with exposure to pectroscopic (e.g. CD, fluorescence, and/or FTIR) principles and applications for analysis of proteins, size-based (AUC) and charge-based (e.g. icIEF, IEX) separation techniques is important. Experience with imaging techniques (SEM/TEM) are a plus.
