Job Details

This position will provide strategic leadership to the RGC's clinical informatics application development and overall vision, working with the Head of Clinical Informatics (CI) and across the RGC. The principal areas of focus will be leading CI's application development and in the development of innovative approaches to phenotype development and analysis. This position can be a Director or Senior Director, depending on experience level. We are on a journey together, and look forward to sharing more.

As a leader in the RGC, a typical day might include:
  • Supervising a team developing applications such as a phenotype browser and phenotype authoring system, with the aim of providing more self-service access to the RGC data.
  • Contributing to sophisticated phenotypes, including longitudinal phenotypes, employing data derived from EHRs and large research cohorts, and employing a range of statistical and/or machine learning methods for phenotype refinement.
  • Working on the refinement and expansion of sophisticated phenotype ontology.
  • Supervising technical and application development related to growing self-service access and analysis of phenotype data, often working with OHDSI-related tools, as well as developing a phenotype ingestion pipeline and a master ontology
  • Conducting or leading analysis of data, including curating of phenotypic datasets and designing and/or executing efficient data mining and association analysis in both phenotype first and genotype first queries.
  • Working closely with external health system collaborators and informatics teams
  • Managing relationships and projects involving diverse partners.
  • Representing the RGC at senior levels both internally and externally (attending and presenting); provide scientific and strategic input to the group, and represent CI and the RGC in selected forums
  • Curating, automating, and analyzing large-scale phenotypic datasets, including de-identified EHR extracts from external collaborators, targeted clinical datasets in selected cohorts, and internal datasets from clinical trials and other human subject research


THIS ROLE COULD BE FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE:
  • Familiarity with data mining, clinical databases, hospital health informatics databases including Epic or other EHR data structures.
  • Deep knowledge of clinical data standards such as ICD, SNOMED, and LOINC, and biomedical onotlogies
  • Experience with OHDSI tools and the OMPO data models.
  • Experience with HIPAA and experience with IRB protocols around use of use of EHR data.
  • Experience working with investigators.
  • Involvement in relevant programs such as PCORnet, eMERGE, HMO Research Network, or other such projects is preferred.
  • A research track record with academic publications and/or academic grant support
  • Strong Analytical skills. Demonstrates the ability to multitask and lead simultaneous projects to get results with a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates ability to interpret and communicate analytical information in a clear, concise manner.


To be considered for this position, you must have 10+ years of experience in healthcare, life sciences, or a related field with an MD or equivalent, including the completion of formal informatics training, ideally in an NLM-sponsored fellowship, is preferred. We are also looking for someone with experience leading a team and a demonstrated record of achievement, ideally through academic publications.
