Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Packaging Engineering team as a Packaging Engineer II in Kite's state-of-the-art Santa Monica facility. As part of this opportunity, the incumbent will support the design, development, qualification, and implementation of packaging materials along with the investigation of packaging/shipping deviations. The Packaging Engineer will report to the Associate Director of Packaging Engineering and will utilize industry standard methodologies to conduct the design, development, qualification, and implementation of packaging and labeling materials for temperature-controlled, sterile products.

Responsibilities of the Packaging Engineer II include:
  • Write engineering test protocols, execute testing in conjunction with internal partners and third-party laboratories, and write engineering test summary reports
  • Qualify shipping methods and processes to ensure the safe delivery of life-saving therapies and write material specifications and process instructions for new and existing packaging and labeling materials
  • Support the design, qualification, and use of label printing, inspecting, and application equipment
  • Propagate a culture of organization and timeliness in the management of project tasks, schedules, and risks
  • Maintain awareness of all government regulations as they pertain to packaging and labeling materials, components, processes, and products
  • Investigate complaints/deviations and develop solutions for issues related to logistics, packaging (materials and design), labeling and cold chain transport
  • Provide support for lifecycle management of cold chain packaging and labeling components
  • Align with the company change control procedures to ensure that only approved packaging materials and processes are used
  • Impart packaging and shipping expertise to support both internal and external logistics and supply chain partners
  • Identify alternate suppliers, as appropriate
  • Work closely with internal partners (Materials Management, Quality, and Manufacturing) to provide packaging and labeling solutions
  • Successfully operate in a fast paced and multifaceted multi-functional environment


Requirements:

MSc Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Packaging Engineering, and/or a related field with 2+ years of pharmaceutical packaging and transport OR Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Packaging Engineering, and/or a related field with 4+ years of the aforementioned experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Cold Chain / hazardous material experience
  • Project Management training / certification
  • Technical writing skills (protocols, reports, specifications, deviation records, etc.) and a knowledge of 21 Code of Federal Regulations, cGMP's, and other applicable FDA Regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of U.S., Japanese, and European Compendia requirements as they pertain to packaging materials, components, processes, and products
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and software
