Position Overview
AbbVie is hiring for a Scientist, Pharmaceutical Sciences - Pharmaceutical Microbiology position, to be located in Irvine, CA.
The Scientist, Pharmaceutical Sciences - Pharmaceutical Microbiology performs microbiological testing in a cGMP environment and manages the testing at contract labs. He/she records and reports data for evaluating the efficacy and safety of all microbiological attributes for ophthalmic, dermatological, and parenteral products, for both small molecule drugs and biologics, medical device, and their raw materials and components. He/she validates microbiological methods in preparation for testing. He/she writes SOPs and conducts investigations to address deviations and OOS/OOT data through QMS. He/she attends product development teams and addresses microbiological attributes.

The successful candidate is required to have a M.S. degree in Microbiology or related life sciences with five (5) or more years of experience in pharmaceutical microbiology in a cGMP setting. A B.S. degree in Microbiology or related life sciences with seven (7) or more years of experience in pharmaceutical microbiology in a cGMP setting will also be acceptable. A Ph.D. degree in Microbiology with two (2) years of work experience can be considered.

Main Areas of Responsibilities
- The successful candidate is required to demonstrate a good knowledge of microbiological theories, concepts and principles.
- Experiences in wide range of microbiological techniques including handling of bacterial and fungal cultures, aseptic procedures, and microbiology-related experimentation are required.
- Sound knowledge on aseptic manufacturing process and sterility test is necessary.
- Experience with other pharmaceutical microbiology attributes such as preservative effectiveness, microbial limits, bioburden and endotoxin is highly desirable.
- Experiences in pharmaceutical microbiological method development on unique drug delivery systems or microbiological evaluation of new container closure technology or sterilization technology is highly desirable.
Requirements
- The incumbent should be familiar with the operation of standard microbiology equipment such as microscopes, spectrophotometers, pH meters, autoclaves, biohazard safety hoods and isolators.
- The candidate must possess the ability to write clearly and succinctly.
Qualifications

- A demonstration of managing projects, implementation of continuous improvement, and risk-based decision making is sought.
- The successful candidate is self-motivated, shows willingness to take on additional responsibilities and must work with minimum supervision.
- Some supervisory experience will be considered a plus. The incumbent must possess good interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a dynamic team environment and must multi-task to meet project timelines.
Education
