What you will do

Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will lead the maturation of the EHSS program at our San Francisco Research Facility accountable to Executive Leadership while maintaining/improving safety performance during a period of significant change. This includes:

  • Guiding Site Leadership in formulating and executing global practices as they relate to environment, health, safety and sustainability performance.
  • Ensuring Site Leadership are accountable for the EHSS performance within their functions.
  • Utilizing proven track record in driving change and advancing a sustainable safety culture at the site.
  • Responsibility for a site governance process to ensure site senior management are kept informed and make vital decisions relating to the status of EHSS matters affecting the site.
  • Leading site based EHSS staff.
  • Delivering results through influence and effective communication and the practical integration of EHSS within business practices.
  • Taking essential actions to ensure R&D safety summit goals are implemented at the site and driving improvement in EHSS performance to sustain a robust EHSS culture at the site.
  • Managing complex problems and coordinate the implementation of innovative solutions.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 4 years of Environmental Health & Safety experience
  • OR
  • Master's degree and 8 years of Environmental Health & Safety experience
  • OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Environmental Health & Safety experience
  • AND
  • 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

  • Degree in environmental, safety, industrial hygiene, technical, scientific or engineering
  • Excellent leadership skills to influence and guide senior site leadership to sustain excellent EHSS performance.
  • 12+ years of experience developing and implementing EHS programs in biotechnology/pharmaceutical company.
  • In depth understanding of Chemistry and Biology Lab operations to support the integration of EHSS requirements into lab and site processes while supporting business objectives.
  • 7+ years of supervisory experience to ensure leadership, team building, strong communication skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management.
  • Knowledge with US regulations as they pertain to pharma/ biotech operations.
  • Applied knowledge and understanding of EHS principles and practices, regulatory standards, and requirements in context of business activities.
  • Postgraduate professional qualification preferred (e.g. Certified safety practitioner (CSP))
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems.
