We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join us as a Senior Manager of Strategic Sourcing & Category Management - Primary & Secondary Packaging to manage the categories of Primary and Secondary Packaging, which includes Single Use Consumables / Disposables (processing and final bags, tubing, connectors, bioreactors, filters). The opportunity focuses on the development and maturation of the category and sourcing strategies while executing supplier management at Kite which includes developing/improving and implementing. This position can be located at either Kite's Santa Monica, CA Headquarters or Kite's facility in Oceanside, CA.

The Senior Manager, internally known as a Senior Manager of Supply Chain, will leverage his/her knowledge of open and closed upstream and downstream cell culture manufacturing processes as well as extensive experience in cell culture bags, filters, aseptic vials and other single use disposables and their suppliers in the marketplace. As a result, the incumbent will have demonstrated experience putting risk mitigation plans in place leading to strong supplier relationships in these categories. Further, The Senior Manager will have contracting experience in the cell and gene area where suppliers are challenged to innovative or demonstrate continuous improvements.

Responsibilities of the Senior Manager of Strategic Sourcing & Category Management - Primary & Secondary Packaging include:
  • Development and execution of multi-year (3-5 year) category strategies as well as executing Sourcing Strategies, leading Sourcing Events-e.g. RFP, and the negotiation and contracting of supply agreements with strategic terms and conditions
  • Assessing supplier risks and materials and recommending risk mitigation plans
  • Lead cross-functional teams to drive results on category, sourcing, supplier risk activities
  • Continuous improvements to performance metrics, programs/processes, and innovations to achieve higher levels of business value.
  • Identify, build, and maintain mutually beneficial relationships, partnerships, and alliances with select suppliers through Supplier Relationship Development programs
  • Develop a list of strategic or bottle neck suppliers within a category of spend and manage compliance, relationships, and performance
  • Develop cost saving targets and conduct market and competitive conditions by category
  • Define a supplier relationship management program, including segmentation criteria and a preferred supplier list for a given category
  • Independent self-starter and able to motivate others to accomplish ambiguous tasks
  • Ability to lead teams in a matrix organization, across geographic and functional reporting lines
  • Knowledge of Primary and Secondary Packaging -eg. Bags, Vials, filters, and production supplies
  • Ability to establish credibility and influence with diverse audiences and be perceived as a lead


Requirements:

Ph.D. degree

OR

MA/MS degree with 6+ years' experience with technical operations and/or procurement and/or global sourcing and/or category management

OR

BA/BS degree with 8+ years' experience with technical operations and/or procurement and/or global sourcing and/or category management

OR

High School Degree and 12+ years' experience with technical operations and/or procurement and/or global sourcing and/or category management

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years' Pharmaceutical Procurement experience
  • Master's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Package Engineering or Sciences or Engineering
  • Professional certifications (e.g. CPM, CPIM) and Membership in Professional Associations (e.g. ISM)
  • Exceptional understanding and application of Procurement principles, concepts, practices, and standards (i.e. effective negotiation, supplier relationship management, business partnering, supplier diversity etc.) along with an in-depth knowledge of industry practices
  • Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer's business context (e.g. supplier base, legal and regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage)
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and utilizing full set of sourcing levers to drive value for customers
  • Ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations
  • Ability to provide thought leadership and actively shape strategy
  • Proven experience with internal stakeholder management, data/information management, category management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management and performance measurement skills
  • Procurement process knowledge, contract management, financial analysis, market analysis, supplier analysis, supplier diversity, supplier management, technology utilization, strategic planning and integrated supply chain experience
