Job Details

We Are Genetic Navigators bringing together passionate, creative and dedicated professionals to join a rapidly-growing startup on our mission to translate novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines. We are integrating human genetics and functional genomics to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers, leading us to new medicines we'll develop for a range of severe diseases.

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with a strong background in organic, synthetic or medicinal chemistry to join our dynamic and highly-collaborative drug discovery team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel, biologically-active small molecules. This is a hands-on role utilizing cutting-edge techniques and advanced technology to contribute to novel molecules for therapeutic use.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:
  • Conduct multistep syntheses of complex small molecules supported with detailed characterization of intermediates and final products
  • Design and execute experiments and tasks in consultation with chemistry colleagues.
  • Propose new compounds for synthesis based on synthetic knowledge and SAR
  • Evaluate and clearly report experimental results to supervisors and colleagues on a routine basis with special attention to data quality and reproducibility
  • Summarize / interpret results and present findings in research meetings
  • Integrate and utilize modern medicinal chemistry principles and tools.
  • Learn new laboratory techniques, troubleshoot experiments, and ensure experiments are performed to a high standard

Company

Maze Therapeutics is translating novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines, through an approach that integrates human genetics and functional genomics. Advances in these areas have enabled us to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers in a range of severe diseases, which we aim to turn into medicines that mimic protective mutations.

What are genetic modifiers?

Despite an understanding of the genetic basis for many diseases, it remains a mystery why some people with a disease-causing mutation never get sick. This is often due to genes elsewhere in our DNA that affect the severity of disease and can provide a natural form of protection.

The Maze approach

Dramatic advances in human genetics and functional genomics now enable us to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers in a range of severe diseases. Today, we believe we can systematically identify genetic modifiers and turn these insights into medicines. We have assembled a world-class team to realize this vision, including creative scientific pioneers, experienced company builders and biotech industry leaders.
