Job Purpose

Canventa has a new role for a Senior Scientist, Cell Manufacturing to provide scientific expertise for the development of multiple product lines for iPSC and iPSC derived differentiated cell types at Canventa Life Sciences. This role guides development strategies for diverse product portfolios and advances Canventa’s long-term success in current and emerging markets through product and technological innovation. This scientist drives collaborations both internally and externally to facilitate development of cutting edge products and scalable manufacturing processes. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for providing advanced scientific expertise for multiple product lines with particular emphasis on iPSCs, iPSC-derived cell types, organoids, and other culture-derived cell products.

 

Responsible for submitting new product proposals, setting performance criteria, experimental design, project planning, product optimization, and product launch  .

 

Resolve complex scientific and technical investigations for cross-team and cross-functional operational activities.

 

Execute on department and corporate goals, projects and/or initiatives with the required stakeholders and subject matter experts.  Contributes to the 5 - 10 year strategic plan. 

 

Working closely with the Strategic Marketing and Marketing teams, participate in all aspects of the product lifecycle management and identify future trends to meet customer needs. 

 

Evaluate new technologies, literature and patents independently, generate intellectual property, and respond to patent office actions with the Business Development Team; draft patent applications.

 

Identify and execute multiple product and process improvement projects including cost reduction and risk mitigation initiatives; responsible for initiating cost reduction projects.

 

Manage the assigned project research budget and report on monthly status updates.

 

Generate, review and approve technical documentation and provide pre- and post-product launch support.

 

Proactively research and analyze competitor activities, threats, and trends, and recommend new product development ideas to counter potential competitor threats. 

 

Serve as a scientific ambassador of the company: i) deliver superior quality presentations to internal and external audiences; ii) promote the Canventa brand and mission; iii) facilitate and strengthen successful relationships with external experts at all levels.

 

Adhere to the Quality Management System (QMS) initiatives and requirements.

 

Proactively report and present on the product lifecycle activities to senior leaders across the company.  Responsible for Executive reporting on corporate initiatives as needed.

 

Lead, manage, coach and mentor a cross-functional team to meet the deliverables and increase team productivity.  

 

 Qualifications

 

PhD with 4-8 years of relevant experience in iPSC generation, maintenance, differentiation and cell characterization.

 

Experience in creating master cell banks and cryopreservation is an asset.

 

Additional expertise in primary cell/ organoid/ organ tissue culture is an asset.

 

Additional experience in high-throughput screening, drug screening, disease modeling, or experience with bioreactor cultures is an asset.

 

Accomplished independent researcher with product, methodology, and/or technology development experience.  

 

Proven record of complex experimental design and execution, including expertise in applying appropriate statistical analyses in complex data sets.

 

Broad technical expertise and knowledge of diverse laboratory techniques. Proven experience training staff on laboratory techniques and protocols.

 

Expert presenter with the ability to deliver technical summaries of data with critical thinking skills to provide in-depth analytical explanations and interpretations.

 

Managed successful collaborations with key opinion leaders. 

 

Demonstrated expertise drafting business plans, patent applications, and related articles in the field of expertise.

 

Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) both in one-on-one and in group settings.
