  • As an industry leader in IO research, responsible for shaping the direction and execution of AbbVie's IO research strategy, helps position AbbVie as an industry leader.
  • Establishes scientific standards and champions new initiatives.
  • Demonstrates scientific leadership by proactively advising, sharing knowledge and expert opinions across functions and with senior management. Scientific leadership extends to formal and informal mentoring of colleagues.
  • Establishes relationships outside of department or organization to facilitate knowledge sharing and development of broader organizational opportunities.
  • Anticipates challenges and emerging research opportunities in the industry. Proactively develops strategies to evolve approach and ensure portfolio vitality.
  • Keeps stakeholders informed by presenting scientific concepts, technology and program progress to cross-functional leaders and collaborators. Maximizes impact and value of own and AbbVie's scientific leadership position.
  • Recognized externally as a leader in immuno-oncology research. Participates in conferences and panel discussions on emerging trends in the field.

Qualifications
  • PhD or MD with training in Oncology/Immunology or highly related field and at least 14 years of related work experience.
  • Proven track record of innovation and accomplishment in the field as evidenced by publication record, conference participation and program leadership in an industry setting.
  • Proven experience in advancing novel research programs to clinical candidate stage molecules; strong understanding of clinical development requirements for immuno-oncology therapeutics.
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing a diverse research team.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. Listens and understands other points of view; ability to effectively articulate vision and persuade key stakeholders across the organization.
