The Executive Director, Medical Communications & Publications, is responsible for ensuring that medical and scientific results from Novartis Gene Therapies studies are communicated in an accurate, timely, compliant and compelling manner. This position plays a major role in developing and implementing the strategic medical communication plan.

  • Develops and implements a scientific communication platform and medical communication plan for AVXS-101, in collaboration with the medical affairs team, the publication lead, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Executes key medical communication deliverables, to help lead activities related to symposia, congresses, and medical education.
  • Serves as the Medical Affairs lead for congress strategy and planning, including medical education, and booth resource.
  • Leads scientific communication platforms workshops to identify data and education gaps and activities to feed into the scientific communication platforms.
  • Generates scientific content for many medical communications-related activities such as digital assets and booth resources.
  • Collects and disseminates key insights from major congresses, symposia and stand-alone meetings.
  • Analyzes insights gained from medical affairs activities and recommend actionable initiatives (or measures) to internal stakeholders.
  • Interfaces and effectively collaborate with external stakeholders and internal cross-functional teams including: clinical research, clinical operations regulatory, safety, biostatistics, to ensure accurate and timely completion/delivery of scientific publications.
  • Provides oversight and status reporting and updates of performance supporting new product launch, AVXS-101.
  • Selects and manages vendors for medical communications tactics to support internal partners (e.g., HEOR).
  • Leads the development of the strategy, planning, and execution of the independent medical evaluation plan ensuring cross functional collaboration with HEOR and non-clinical communications.
  • Provides oversight and reporting of pipeline products.
  • Leads team of medical communications and publications professionals.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

  • MD, with 5 years within bio-pharmaceutical industry and 7 years' experience in a Medical Communications role, including 3 years with managerial responsibilities.
  • Deep understanding of the strategic role that medical communications serves to support the organizations' education and communication priorities and requirements.
  • Ability to work on several projects at once while balancing multiple and overlapping timelines.
  • Successful track record of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
  • Impeccable attention to detail and ability to complete writing assignments in a timely manner with minimal oversight.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Approximately 20% travel.
