Job Details

We Are Genetic Navigators bringing together passionate, creative and dedicated professionals to join a rapidly-growing startup on our mission to translate novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines. We are integrating human genetics and functional genomics to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers, leading us to new medicines we'll develop for a range of severe diseases.

We are seeking talented and highly motivated biologists to establish cell-based and biochemical assays and perform detailed mechanistic biology studies to drive our early programs. Strong candidates will be highly organized, eager to learn and will have the self-confidence to work across boundaries to help answer challenging scientific questions.

Your Role in Navigating The Maze:
  • Design and perform in vitro and ex-vivo experiments for target validation and mechanistic studies in support of therapeutics development
  • Support the development of assay strategies and engage with members of the team in experimental design, troubleshooting, sample analysis, data interpretation, and report generation
  • Work well independently and in collaboration with colleagues across various functional areas.
  • Present data in group and project team meetings

Your Navigation Tools:
  • B.S./M.S. in a biological science and at least 3-7 years of lab experience in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or academic setting
  • Ideal candidates will have a depth of research experience in cell and molecular biology and assay development and a broad range of additional laboratory skills
  • Experience in a drug discovery environment is preferred
  • Experience and expertise with mammalian cell culture and running cell-based assays is required. Additional experience with cell line engineering is preferred, and experience working with and isolating primary cells is a plus
  • Experience with several (preferably all) of the following is required: Western Blotting, qPCR/gene expression analysis, flow cytometry & fluorescence microscopy
  • In vivo experience, particularly related to tissue harvesting and processing for downstream applications is highly desirable
  • Excellent data analysis skills and experience with a variety of scientific software applications is required

Company

Maze Therapeutics is translating novel genetic insights into lifesaving medicines, through an approach that integrates human genetics and functional genomics. Advances in these areas have enabled us to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers in a range of severe diseases, which we aim to turn into medicines that mimic protective mutations.

What are genetic modifiers?

Despite an understanding of the genetic basis for many diseases, it remains a mystery why some people with a disease-causing mutation never get sick. This is often due to genes elsewhere in our DNA that affect the severity of disease and can provide a natural form of protection.

The Maze approach

Dramatic advances in human genetics and functional genomics now enable us to decode the mysteries of genetic modifiers in a range of severe diseases. Today, we believe we can systematically identify genetic modifiers and turn these insights into medicines. We have assembled a world-class team to realize this vision, including creative scientific pioneers, experienced company builders and biotech industry leaders.
