Novartis Gene Therapies is seeking a Summer Research Intern to assist with animal care and handling including breeding, dosing, and executing preclinical in vivo pharmacology experiments under supervision of scientists in support of pipeline development.

Responsibilities
  • Perform more high-level tasks necessary for the colony management and study of rodent models of disease such as animal identification by marking, breeding, weaning, and collection of tissue samples for DNA or RNA analysis.
  • Execute behavioral testing in mice.
  • Under supervision, responsible for executing, tracking, and managing genotyping.
  • Examine data and contribute to summaries and quantitative analysis, ensuring experiments are well documented and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and ensure safe laboratory environment and work practices. Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) and IACUC protocols. Help to maintain laboratory and supply inventory.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across a dynamic scientific environment, therefore excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and strong interpersonal skills.

Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, master's or doctoral program, majoring in biology, biomedical research, neuroscience, animal behavior or animal sciences,
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Preferred - Experience in mouse handling.


The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
