Talaris Therapeutics, Inc. ("Talaris") is a late-clinical stage biotechnology company that is developing transformative cell therapies with the potential to eliminate the burden of chronic immunosuppression for organ transplant recipients as well as induce durable remissions in patients with severe autoimmune and immune-mediated disorders. Achieving durable, drug-free immune tolerance to a donated organ has been referred to as a "Holy Grail" of organ transplant. In a ground-breaking, phase 2 study conducted between 2009 - 2016, our lead therapy, FCR001, enabled 70% of living donor kidney transplant recipients to be weaned off all immunosuppression within 12 months of their kidney transplant, without rejecting their donated organ. The benefits of our therapy have been shown to be extremely durable. We have followed these patients for an average of over five years since their transplant, and the longest for over ten years, and not a single patient who was tolerized in our phase 2 study has subsequently had to resume immunosuppression. Since late-2018, Talaris has raised over $190M in private financing from leading life sciences investors and has initiated a Phase 3 registration trial of our therapy in living donor kidney transplant patients. In 2021, the company also plans to initiate Phase 2 trials of FCR001 in scleroderma as well as in patients who have previously received a living donor kidney transplant. Position Summary:

Talaris is searching for an Associate Director, Program Management to lead one of our exciting clinical programs. The position reports to the Head of Portfolio and Program Management and serves as the strategic and operational thought partner to the Program Team Leaders. S/he will lead a multi-disciplinary program team, comprised of functional representatives from Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, CMC, Regulatory, Research and New Product Planning. The Associate Director, Program Management will oversee the execution of program strategy and should have experience managing and developing high performing cross-functional teams. This individual will drive the development of global program plans and partner closely with the Portfolio Steering Committee, Program Team, and Leadership Team to ensure alignment with corporate strategy and vision. As a member of the growing Program Management team, this individual will have the opportunity to partner with the Head of Portfolio and Program Management to build upon and implement company-wide tools and develop new processes for the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as strategic and operational thought partner to functional leads responsible for development and execution of program strategy in line with corporate strategy and goals
  • Manage execution of activities outlined in Integrated Development Plan (IDP) according to established timelines; lead process to update IDP as required
  • Facilitate cross-functional communication, drive strategic and operational alignment with the Program Team, functional leads, and Leadership Team
  • Build high performing teams, establish and promote positive team operating principles in line with company values
  • Identify critical issues/risks and develop contingencies and mitigation plans as appropriate
  • Drive agenda topics for Program Team discussion and alignment, and partner with Program Management team for incorporation of key strategic decisions into appropriate governance forums
  • Participate in most/all sub team meetings to ensure overarching strategic perspective is represented in all discussions
  • Partner with project management support in functional areas for incorporation of detailed project plans into integrated program plan, and ensure functional plans are aligned with overarching program goals/timelines
  • Drive strategic & tactical program planning in partnership with Finance and Program Management, including the long-range planning process and annual budget planning
  • Provide oversight for program financials, ensuring sufficient resources are in place to support program goals, and escalate resource needs where appropriate
  • Organize team meetings, record meeting summaries, decisions, and action items, clarify specific responsibilities and requirements
  • Develop and maintain program dashboards and update to portfolio reports, develop Go/No Go strategy, Stage Gate plans, and buy-up and buy-down options
  • Track deliverables against program timelines and budget, analyze successful completion of short- and long-term goals
  • Partner with broader Program Management team and functional areas to develop new processes and company-wide program and project management tools
  • Ensure cross-functional and cross-program sharing of key learnings, and drive change management as applicable
  • This job may require some travel (when deemed safe to travel)

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in life sciences preferred
  • PMP certification is a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years multi-disciplinary/cross-functional leadership experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with 2+ years of program management/program leadership experience in drug development
  • Experience in cell or gene therapy, and basic understanding of complex logistics involved in manufacturing and delivering personalized medicine preferred
  • Knowledge of early development with early to mid-stage clinical development experience preferred
  • Proficient prioritizing and driving complex programs to milestone completion
  • Demonstrated leadership, with ability to influence and effectively communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to drive alignment with senior/executive leadership is crucial
  • Demonstrated proficiency in program management tools (e.g. Smartsheet), and methodology. Willingness to constantly improve PM tools, implement best practices, and foster change management.
  • Financial acumen with ability to develop and manage program plans, budgets, and timelines
  • Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work efficiently and productively in a highly dynamic, scientifically rigorous, and fast-paced environment
