The Discovery Platform Technologies group has an exciting opportunity for a scientist to join the Advanced Chemistry Technologies (ACT) team at AbbVie. This scientist will work in the Discovery Pressure and Catalysis lab, executing gas mediated chemical reactions, in particular, hydrogenation and carbonylation reactions, for chemists across Discovery. In addition, the position will involve handling Discovery reaction screen requests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting
  • Demonstrate mastery of broad range of experimental techniques and methods of data analysis with gas mediated reaction and reaction screen requests
  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve key chemistry issues by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise
  • Proactively seek out new information in the literature and incorporate this into individual project(s) as well as the overall program
  • Effective writer and communicator of research
  • Demonstrate a high degree of responsibility in maintaining scientific standards, and safe laboratory practices
  • Understand the broad objective of the projects and contribute to the generation of project-related documents and presentations
  • Learn, understand, and master new chemistry technologies

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • BS or MS in Organometallic/ Organic Chemistry with typically 2-5+ (MS) or 5-7+ (BS) years pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise
  • Demonstrate strong synthesis skills and understanding of organic chemistry


Essential:

  • Strong expertise in organometallic chemistry
