Job Details

The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide expertise in electron microscopy, protein characterization, mass spectrometry, protein expression, optical microscopy and genomics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR), where CRTP scientists work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide technical advice to investigators on sample preparation, and data collection
  • Operate TEM microscopes, specifically Titan Krios and Talos Arctica; task will include loading samples, screening, and performing high-resolution data collection for single particle studies as well as cryo-electron tomography
  • Manage and use CryoSPARC live software as well as other software related to EM (Relion, IMOD, Amira…)
  • Manage maintenance for the Titan Krios and the Talos Arctica as well as associated instruments (T20, Talos L120C)
  • Train new CMM employees and other users in the use of the Krios, Tecnai T20 and Talos L120C as well as in data collection software and in the sample preparation techniques
  • Interact closely with colleagues within the CMM as well as other groups

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a master's degree or a PhD degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation in Biological Sciences, Structural Biology, or related discipline (Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with Cryo-EM, Cryo-electron tomography, and high-resolution single-particle analysis
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able to prepare detailed, concise technical reports
  • Strong laboratory skills
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with negative stain and other specimen preparation techniques for EM
  • Experience in Micro-ED
