What You Will Achieve

The Scientist will be a key member of the Rare Disease Research Unit Gene Therapy Capsid Development team. This position will join a larger team of scientists across multiple sites to advance Pfizer's gene therapy platform by delivering on new AAV viral vectors for Pfizer's gene therapy pipeline. The Scientist applicant will be knowledgeable about AAV molecular and cellular biology and will have experience in AAV-based laboratory research. The Scientist position will be a laboratory focused role using a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques that will support the execution of novel AAV viral vector development projects. As an individual contributor, the Scientist should be able to work independently with minimal supervision and be able to multi-task concurrent project demands. As the Scientist will work closely with fellow colleagues, it is necessary for the candidate to be able to work in a highly collaborative environment and communicate effectively per Pfizer Values. The Scientist may also be asked to take part in Discovery Biology experiments for Pfizer pipeline programs.

  • Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of experience, Master's Degree with 2+ years of experience, or PhD with 0+ years with a degree in a biological discipline (Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or equivalent)
  • Advanced capabilities in molecular techniques including but not limited to plasmid construction, advanced molecular cloning, preparation of gDNA/RNA/protein from tissue, qPCR/ddPCR, western blot, immunofluorescence
  • Knowledgeable in AAV molecular and cellular biology (e.g. AAV cellular pathway, AAV life cycle)
  • Experience with in vivo AAV studies and handling of NHP or murine tissue samples for AAV biodistribution analysis
  • Demonstrated capabilities in AAV mammalian virus production and purification.
  • Experience with aseptic technique and experience in mammalian cell culture and transfection techniques
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office, imaging software, in silico plasmid design, and basic statistical analysis

  • Experience with bioinformatic processes to evaluate next-generation sequencing data, sequencing analysis software, and large-scale data processing
  • Able to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability for NGS library synthesis and development
