The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) Directorate is responsible for laboratory space, administrative space, infrastructure, campus landscape, planning, and design, and construction management at Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The Woodcraft Worker will:

  • Repair general carpentry
  • Install and fabricate frames or casing for windows, doors and transoms
  • Install and fabricate floor mounted and wall hung cabinetry, bookcases, shelving systems, and kitchen countertops, and tables
  • Install and finish sheetrock on wall and ceiling surfaces
  • Install and repair exterior siding, trim work, sheathing and roofing systems
  • Operate power tools
  • Complete work order documentation
  • Interact with customers
  • This position is subject to 24-hour call in (rotating schedule) for emergency repairs


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of four (4) years of craft-related experience
  • Ability to operate standard woodworking machines, hand tools, and floor mounted machinery (electrical, pneumatic & powder driven belt sander, table saw, planer, radial arm saw, panel saw, jointer, mortise, and router to cut and shape natural synthetic, and composite materials)
  • Must be able to measure and calculate necessary dimensions and angles to construct properly fitting abutments, joints and edges
  • Ability to read and interpret, instructions, blueprints, and work orders
  • Experience with construction safety practices
  • Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the candidate resides
  • Must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as determined by the Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy
  • Ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; climb stairs and ladders; work involves walking, standing, bending, stooping, working in confined areas; potential exposure to particulates, vapors or noisy environment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance


JOB HAZARDS

 

 

  • This position is subject to working in or have the potential to exposure to high noise levels for extended periods of time requiring medical clearance
  • This position is subject to the environmental conditions such as working outdoors, high humidity areas indoors, dampness and chilling, dry atmospheric conditions, etc. as part of the job
