Scientific Associate II - Protein Science- Irvine, CA

Successful Scientific Associates will contribute by: contributing their expertise to projects aimed at purifying and characterizing protein-based therapeutics. He/she will develop and carry out a variety of protein purification strategies including affinity (IMAC) and tagless purification (IEX,SEC, HIC) from bacterial expression systems utilizing AKTA systems. Additional protein research will include analysis by SDS-PAGE, Western blot, ELISA, HPLC (reverse phase/size exclusion), protease assays, thermal stability, light scattering to evaluate the activity and functionality of therapeutic proteins. This individual will organize, analyze and interpret results, come forward with recommendations or understanding of the results, and communicate and present in team meetings and reports. The ideal candidate will be able to propose and design assays and have exceptional troubleshooting skills.

YOU WILL:

Be a trusted and expert scientific partner.
  • Independently conduct experiments of moderate complexity, designing the work plan so that reliable results are achieved in a timely manner.
  • Plan experimental approaches with supervisory guidance. Discuss, recommend, and modify experimental techniques as needed.
  • Document and interpret results in order to reach conclusions, discuss with supervisor and decide on subsequent experiments.
  • Management of laboratory supplies and equipment needed for research (ordering supplies, equipment maintenance, record keeping, and inventory).
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date knowledge and skill base by reviewing the literature, attending seminars and meetings.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and appropriate documentation of work performed. Assist supervisor in maintaining project documentation.
  • Attend and participate in lab, team and departmental meetings. Present data as required.


Qualifications

YOU BRING:
  • Experience with protein/enzyme characterization including SDS-PAGE, western bots, DLS/aggregation, HPLC (reverse phase/ size exclusion) and enzyme assays is desirable.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related life science field and 1 - 3 years relevant experience in protein purification and characterization
