Job Description

We are seeking an experienced scientific leader to join our team as Senior Director, Cell Therapy Research at our facility in Emeryville, California.

This position leads a group of scientists focused on multiple pipeline research programs, developing CAR-T therapy against hematological and solid malignancies. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including matching 401k, stock options, and relocation!

Responsibilities will include:
  • Responsible for overseeing multiple teams of scientists, each focused on the advancement of CAR-T therapy programs from target discovery through IND-enabling activities.
  • Lead the validation of novel targets across multiple indications, provide strategic decision making for new therapeutic programs, and ensure project timelines and goals are met.
  • Foster the development of new and existing pipeline programs in solid tumor or hematological malignancy indications, including identifying key mechanisms of therapeutic resistance in the tumor microenvironment.
  • Provide mentorship and line-function management to junior team members.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell or Cancer Biology, or a related field with 12+ years of experience.
  • Prior experience in cell therapy preferred,, though a track record of success leading programs from discovery to candidate nomination in other treatment modalities such as biologics or small molecules may also be valuable.
  • Experience in oncology drug discovery, with an understanding of tumor heterogeneity and its impact on therapeutic response.
  • Expertise in assessing T cell biology and activity through typically utilized functional assays measuring cellular activation, cytokine release, proliferation, and cytotoxicity.
  • Prior experience in generating IND-enabling research and contributing to or filing IND-ready research reports.
  • Significant supervisory experience, including the management of PhD-level scientists.
  • Strong organizational as well as excellent oral and written communication skills are required to communicate project status and strategy to leadership.
