The Senior Director, Strategy & Business Operations - Global Patient Access, supports the Vice President, Global Patient Access (GPA). This role oversees the integrated strategy for global patient access across translational access, gene pricing and contracting; geneconomics and real world data.

This role is a critical part of building a clear and comprehensive understanding of the global market access landscape from a strategic perspective. In addition, this role helps to enable the GPALT and broader senior leadership team to both mitigate the increasing risks in the marketplace as well as to shape the external environment to optimize opportunities in a manner more conducive to the strategic objectives of the Novartis Gene Therapies Business.

This role supports the global patient access team across multiple types of operating models including direct and hybrid throughout the Novartis Gene Therapies organization to achieve key business objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Helps GPALT to set research agenda for evaluating outlook for/trends in strategic market access landscape for gene therapies and regenerative medicines.
  • Leads multidisciplinary research teams of internal and external resources (e.g., finance, medical, HEOR, marketing, and third party vendors) to develop Market Access perspective on key agenda items including the strategic, financial and operational implications to Novartis of these major trends (e.g., implications of changes in payer industry structure, value-based pricing, HTA shaping and access approaches to pricing and contracting).
  • Via a disciplined, hypothesis-driven methodology develops evidence-based analyses and shape that analysis into executive level presentations as input to their strategic decision making processes and investments
  • The outputs of the Strategic Market Access landscape assessment efforts are intended to facilitate clear decision making and resource allocation for the GPALT and the senior leadership Novartis Gene Therapies with respect to the impact of the global market access environment on commercialization of current and future products.
  • Develop and support all relevant communications to key internal audiences for the content generated
  • Works with cross-functional teams to support the development and execution of the overall integrated Strategic Plan and performance objectives and reports on progress management for the in-line and portfolio of Novartis Gene Therapies projects.
  • Chairs and operates the newly created Global Patient Access Leadership forum across global cross-functional regional teams (EMEA, US, LATCAN, ASIA).
  • Key point of contact responsible for strategy and planning and goal setting across the whole GPA function and its pillars (translational access, gene pricing, geneconomics, and real-world-data across all global markets
  • Facilitates the development of GPA priorities and annual objective setting in collaboration with regional teams and cross-functional teams.
  • Oversees GPA's budget, financial planning and meeting annual budget targets.
  • Translates vision into year-on-year objectives and facilitate the development of business priorities within the GPA function.
  • Tracks relevant KPIs of the whole function defined as part of annual goal setting.
  • Accountable for setting up and leading periodical reviews, budget and strategic planning cycles inclusive of identifying gaps, resource needs etc.
  • Holds team members accountable for representing their respective functions as well as reaching goals and completing tangible deliverables.
  • Supports impact of the GPA function and effectively collaborate with other functions: e.g. Partner with corporate strategy; patient advocacy and policy finance, communications; HR and other relevant stakeholders to accelerate global patient access objectives world-wide.
  • Prepares, reviews and critiques submissions for critical meetings / planning processes and interfaces (Global value dossiers, Strategic Plan, IPS and budget).
  • Prepares content, key messages, speaker notes etc. for critical external / internal meetings.
  • Prepares quarterly GPA town-halls (WW patient access teams) and on and off-site gatherings.
  • Provides coaching to associates on implementation of strategic projects and performance management, resourcing etc.
  • Drives the development of an active, agile and ambitious culture within GPA.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • BS/BA degree in Business, International Business, Finance or related and preferably MBA, MD or PhD in Biological Sciences with 12 years in the Pharma industry including in a regional/global environment or in large country operations (top 10).
  • English: fluent, spoken & written. Other languages desirable.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings; open, transparent and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven leadership and critical decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage high levels of global complexity.
  • Demonstrated organizational and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to deliver professional and quality work products while working on multiple projects.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment.


The level of this position will be based on the final candidate's qualifications.
