Research Associate, AAV Vector Development

At Locana, we are creating a new class of genetic medicines to treat a range of human genetic diseases by delivering RNA binding proteins and effector domains that can precisely manipulate disease causing RNA by several mechanisms without DNA modification.  We deliver our RNA manipulation systems by gene therapy which provides a durable effect with one-time treatment.  The broad range of RNA manipulations that are possible with our approach provides a unique platform to address many diseases beyond which is possible with current therapies. The wide range of potential indications is supported by the modularity of our RNA-targeting gene therapies which provide exquisite control of specificity and activity.

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join us and assist in the development of our viral gene therapy production platform.


In this role, you would support research-grade AAV vector production and QC, producer cell line maintenance and production of molecular biology reagents to support vector development following GLP requirements for our drug discovery and preclinical gene therapy studies.  You would have the opportunity to make significant contributions in our dynamic start-up environment where self-driven, enthusiastic employees thrive.


  • Perform small scale AAV vector production, purification, and analysis
  • Maintain and propagate various AAV producer cell lines
  • Coordinate AAV vector production needs with other vector development and molecular biology staff
  • Assist with QC of vector attributes including titer, purity, and endotoxin levels
  • Perform routine molecular biology including plasmid production, qPCR
  • Examine data and prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analysis, ensuring experiments are well documented.
  • Work in a team environment, collaborating with various colleagues across multiple departments.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


  • BS or MS in molecular biology, cell biology, virology, or related field (required)
  • 3+ years experience in AAV viral vector production, purification and/or analysis (preferred)
  • Familiarity with using lab-scale production platforms for live virus or viral vector production (preferred)
  • Experience maintaining production cell lines and tiered cell banking (required)
  • Demonstrated skills in cell line transfection/transduction (required)
  • Demonstrated skills in vector characterization methods (preferred)
  • Demonstrated skills in sterile tissue culture techniques (required)
  • Ability to proactively manage inventory of supplies, ordering reagents and consumables
  • Critical thinking, analytic skills, and trouble-shooting ability
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong record keeping skills
  • Capability to multi-task, be independent, self-motivated, as well as work in a highly collaborative setting
  • Excellent oral and communication skills
  • Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization which requires flexibility, and a willingness to learn new techniques and methods
