Role Specification:

The Senior Medical Writer, Medical Communications will write and edit peer-reviewed scientific publications and congress presentations, in addition to other scientific and educational Medical Affairs materials. Reporting to the Manager, Medical Communications, the Senior Medical Writer will work closely with Medical, Clinical, Research, Regulatory, Biometrics, and other cross-functional teams in communicating critical information that supports medical education and scientific exchange across product lifecycles.

  • Create high-quality Medical Communications materials, including peer-review manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and slide decks.
  • Research medical topics; assist in formulating key messages, evaluating, and creating content in various formats that is clear and accurate.
  • Critically analyze complex information and collaborate with clinical and statistical teams on data description, presentation, and analysis.
  • Work closely with Manager, Medical Communications, to coordinate review, production, and submission of manuscripts and congress materials.
  • Assist in coordinating medical writing activities with medical communications agencies.
  • Write or edit other Medical Communications material, including educational and peer-to-peer slide decks, training materials, educational sheets, lay summaries, videos, and other digital materials.
  • Attend cross-functional team meetings as assigned to provide Medical Communications support and input for medical and scientific content.
  • Participate in author kick off calls and adjudication meetings.
  • Ensure that all publications adhere to publications and industry standards, including ICMJE and GPP3.


  • BS degree in a scientific or health-related field is required; PhD in Life Sciences is preferred

  • At least 3 years of medical writing experience, or equivalent, in scientific/medical/publication writing in the pharmaceutical, biotech, device, or medical communications industries
  • Experience in the field of cardiology is desired

  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communications describing scientific and clinical data
  • Understanding of clinical trial design and execution, statistical methods, and clinical trial data reporting requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively and coordinate the efforts of team members to resolve comments, and produce a final high-quality document
  • Independently motivated with good problem-solving skills
  • Well-organized with demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, work simultaneously on multiple projects, and complete high-quality documents according to timelines
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multitasking, collaborative team-oriented work environment
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Web-based applications as well reference management software (e.g., EndNote)
  • Advanced knowledge of publication management systems (e.g., DataVision or PubStrat)
