Description:

We are currently recruiting for a Research Engineer or Software Engineer I, II or III with strong computational skills and preferably experience with Machine Learning (ML) to work on a very ambitious project to uncover disease mechanisms of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Huntington's Disease (HD) or Parkinson's Disease (PD) using sophisticated image analysis tools. The person in this position will develop computational methods to extract features from iPSC-derived neurons from patients with ALS, PD or HD that will elucidate molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease. This person may also help use ML techniques to analyze genomic data to help understand the disease- causing variants of ALS, PD and HD using Whole Genome Sequence (WGS) data.

At the core of our research is a novel robotic microscope system that we have invented to collect images and time-lapse movies of fluorescently-labeled neurons in high-throughput format. We use our microscopy system to extract various types of biological information about how patient-derived neurons with neurological disease variants grow, connect and behave. This person will help to run and develop our image analysis-based algorithms to capture phenotypes and will help to use ML tools using Deep Learning and Supervised Machine Learning to train models to recognize certain cellular features of ALS, HD and PD. This person may also have the opportunity to work with WGS data to develop genetic risk scores using ML as well.

Required skills:
  • Programming experience in Python, Java and R
  • Statistical skills: exploratory data analysis
  • Preferred skills
  • Machine Learning libraries like TensorFlow, Keras or Scikit-Learn
  • Experience with genomics

Additional Information:
